More Camera Vans brought into service, in North Yorkshire

Between Jervaulx and East Witton and another in Middleham

Little traffic, can't see it being anything else but revenue raising:mad:

Damn, roads where you rarely saw a copper :blast

Mind you, if you're on a bike, you don't actually have to pass them if you think they've caught you speeding...

If there's little traffic it won't raise much revenue will it......seems a little counter intuitive to me!

Just bikes out last night, not in massive numbers

What I meant was, that they were not busy high accident risk roads in built up areas

It was out to target one road user group only

Looks like playtime in north Yorkshire is swiftly coming to an end :(

No need for fast bikes now

Where they had sneakily been parked, there was little chance of evasion & there was no room to turn around or take another side road

If you did turn around they could have read your number plate as you were in camera range or they have binoculars

Only option would be to stop, cover or remove your number plate - what a faff & illegal perhaps

Anyway it makes a lovely riding area now not so attractive unless you stick to C class roads

JB, are they the vans that have the tall extender pole as well. Noticed a couple on cat and fiddle. Fully extended I guess spotting bikes approaching. They were on a pull everyone exercise. We're doomed I tell ye doomed:rob:rob:rob.

I never break the speed limit ever, so no problem for me:augie

And what, pray tell, is wrong with complying with the speed limit?

Lunatic on a rocket went through our little spot yesterday evening - ears pricked up expecting the nob to surely hit something and come over the mill wall. (Does he ride like that where he lives? doubt it very much!).

Nothing Jim

But with the Camera Vans, there is no latitude

If you get stopped by a police officer, there is some credance and the opportunity for a bollocking

I don't advocate speeding but just because a person sticks to the speed limits, it doesn't automatically make them a good rider :augie
Speed needs to be put into perspective and there should be more emphasis on good driving/riding practices.

Last night on Emergency Bikers, a biker on the Yorkshire ring road was knocked from his bike. His bike was fairly trashed and he had broken bones. The driver admitted pulling out and not seeing the rider & I realise these programs are a bit OTT when making it seem worse. But later, the program said the driver was given 3 points & a £60 penalty - the same as an average speeding charge!
Is almost killing someone the same offence as a few miles over the limit? :nenau

Because it's generally a dumbed down limit to suit the most inept drivers :blast

40's and below are sacrosanct, anywhere else I'll ride/drive at a speed appropriate to the road and weather conditions - I'm not old enough to potter about yet.

I do spend a lot of time on C roads nowadays and the appropriate speed is frequently considerably below the speed limit though.

Totally agree. Speed limits used to be set by the 80 percentile rule. The speed at which 80% of the traffic travelled. Now they are set by morons who mouth the "speed kills" crap. Speed in itself can't harm anyone and to say speed kills is just woolly thinking and diverts attention from the real causes of accidents-NOT PAYING ATTENTION , be it using a mobile, lighting a cigarette, drinking coffee or simply day dreaming.

Now we have a situation were even careful drivers have to spend too much time check their speed. I'd rather they did 32 in a 30 and were concentrating on the road than 29.5mph whilst staring at the dashboard.

As you said appropriate speed is what is needed, 100mph on a deserted motorway is only dangerous in the minds of the "speed kills" fanatics. 30 mph near a primary school at chucking out time might be legal but it is not appropriate. The result of this emphasis on speed alone is leading to people thinking that if they ride/drive at the limit they are then "safe" riders/drivers.
