Can't see how this protects protects, rotation of the rear wheel throws water & road detritus shot blasting the the cross member from the rear. I use a cut piece of coolant pipe on the cross bar which I simply remove between rides to prevent potential rot setting in under the pipe, and of course liberally coat in acf. So far still as good as new. Not a Gucci farkle but an effective one.
Looks fu**** horrible.I'm pretty sure that very few rocks get thrown forward off the wheel. I had one from new on my 05 and had zero corrosion issues on it.

40K miles, and you can see that it looks fine. The only problem I had was rust on the cheap clamps.

I never said big bucks for tape but things like crud catchers, centre stand plates Rad guards etc are grossly over priced and that goes for most accessory for these bikes comparing to Jap bikes.
BMW is supposed to be a high end brand and in my opinion is not of a great quality, e.g switch gear, engine corrosion, not to mention easy parts to steal off it.
Why do we need to pay extra to protect this bike when you have to pay a lot for it in the first place.
Some folk on here must have money to burn.

It sometimes seems that for some people on here, BMW is like a religion: don't blaspheme! The bloke has made a fair criticism - if it's easy to prevent rust on a vulnerable part, why don't BMW do it in the factory?

Get around to the dealers and ask them -![]()

One welcome improvement that BMW seemed to have made though is to the finish on the front engine cover of the LC, mine has survived remarkably well over 22,000 miles with just a regular coating of FS365, no signs of corrosion at all![]()
My centre stand was replaced under warrantee, for slight corrosion.
I mentioned it when booking in for its service, when picking bike up it had a new stand
Apparently the old stand was sent back to BMW where it was refitted to a bike destined for some poor sod in Nottinghamshire.
BMMIKE,
Who's make of engine bars are those that you have fitted....BMW?
