More F***in Water

Any of you that follow the 1200 threads will know of my woes in Spain
First it stopped in Bilbo , then Madrid , where the Mechanic informed me it was water in the Pump Housing , which explained the intermittant nature of the
stoppages.
I ave been floatin bout not too many miles , and run for cover when it
rains , i havent really used the bike , since my return , just for working at ,
fittin bits and generally futterin wey it.
So just tonight gettin it ready for the Workshop tomorrow , i have the plastics stripped off the Front , and i just have a wee peekie Boo into the Housing ,
and there shimmerin up at me as if to say Ku kooo , there it is the F***in
water .
Is there a new Cover on this , am i doin somethin wrong WTF.
Anybody else experiance this , how did you overcome it ?

just a thought could you cock somthing up using gortex ii have old army jacket ..i bought new off fleabay being a trusting sole i lay it accross a cullinder one night and filled it with water next day it was still full to the top

...strange but true turned out to be a quality peice of kit {used off road }
and as you know its breathable as well ..bit of old kit lying round ??? may be worth a try ???

not practical ...but what the hell ..ide give it a go anyway

I check mine for water once a week and put shower cap over cover when washing bike,it's never failed on me but is something I am always aware of thanks to this forum.

I have made a raised cover for mine as it is a stupid design they even fitted the component so it sits in the water
Think it would be better with the cover left off & @ least you can just blow the water out
BMW need to redesign the plastic cover even if you don't go out in the rain as when you wash the bike you will fill it with water

The cover is left off on the 1200 adv

I've found, just drying the area, the smearing some vaseline or similar around the unit then spraying the lot in wd40 has'nt done mine any harm.

Just be careful when disconnecting/connecting the q/d petrol pipe as it is very easy to cut the O ring if you just push the connector back together.

i tried WD40 / FS365 over the pump / connectors but it had to keep redoing it after a few showers / bike washes.

In the end i found some spray in Halfords (near the batteries) which leaves thin waterproof a plastic film over everything. 9 i think its meant for battery terminals, but says suitable fo all electrical connections). Anyway, as it coats the whole area - bolts, wires, connectors and also seals any gaps - it has stopped any corrosion on mine so i dont really worry about it too much anymore. I'll fuind out the name later if anyones interested. (Its also handy for waterproofing the rear light connectors and any other ones liable to corrode)

ok i lied, i didnt get it in Halfords, I got it at motorworld!

Anyway its made by CarPlan and its called Ignition Sealer. Looks like this:

I think Holts do a similar one.

If you use it be careful not to overspray or let the stuff run anywhere you dont want it as it leaves a plastic film over anything it touches. When i did my rear light wiring i got it on the number plate. It hasnt affected the plastic (ie hasnt made it go cloudy or anything) but in some lights you can see where the stuff has run on the number plate. I wouldnt want to get it on any paintwork or visible areas.
