Checked the forum after two engine cutouts today, and have seen some of the posts on the subject. Mine were both at very low revs...only just started happing, but I'm using the bike much more now.

Apart from keeping the revs up, any ideas? Its a 02 R1150GS with about 8,000 miles on.

out of interest, whats your normal tickover speed ?

and if any of the others who've had stalling troubles, and read this , could you post up your idle speed .

1100rpm.

I've noticed that mine does it when i'm shifting down for lights or whatever after being high up in the rev rage - so the revs go low as the clutch goes in then I blip the throttle and the clutch comes out and it'll occasionally stall. Is it possible that the idle speed can sometimes be tricked into dipping very low, causing it to stall when you whip the throttle open again? When mine does it - its usually when I'm riding in a 'spirited' fashion!

Worked for me Steptoe, but the 4K rpm tickover does attract a lot of attention in town:D

Most of the stalls have happened on idle, or very low speed, with revs at about 1500...

and it happened again last night, absolutly jammed in traffic at the lights, light change, engine dies and won't restart (pos due to cac handed opening of throttle whils't stabbing at starter button)...Oh the shame, once bike pushed onto pavement started fine, but I rode home reving the nuts off it. I'm going to call SPC this morning and see what they have to say.

BM specifyes 1000-1150rpms. My idle is the lowest possible 1000rpm, sometimes even 950 or so. Works flawlessly and engine doesn't overheat that quickly stanting on one place on hot wheather.

Maybe you have TPS issues then? Or choke's cable defective?

Thanks for all of this...SPC very helpfull, took the bike in and they checked it over, there appears to be a defective engine temprature sensor, it occasionaly reads a lower temp than is the case, the mixture richens, and then as a result stalls. I saw this happen on the way home, engine temp display dropped to zero, revs dropped, opened throttle, temp guage recovered.
Interestingly enough the majority of times it has happened I've had ear plugs in, my guess is that when I could hear the engine I'd blip the throttle when the revs dropped without thinking. New part ordered, bike booked in (for a week Thursday!), ear plugs discarded for the next two weeks...WHAT!...follow the story in DEALERS if it all goes wrong...and if you see or hear an over reving 1150 in the between junction 12 M4 and W12 you'll know why.
