Morocco 2010

My plan is leave Ireland on 26/3/10,go to UK,leave UK 28/3/10 arrive in Spain 29/3/10 go to Morocco...... leave Morocco 12/4 or 13/4/10 go to north Spain, leave Spain 15/4/10 arrive in UK 16/4/10..... In Morocco I'd like to see the best :augie , some offroad, dunes Erg Chebbi, good fun, camping, cheap hotels or b&b,etc. Have my trip plan already done, read a lot of guides and maps and used travel alone :( so anyone else is going with me?

I could do this - I'm more to B&B's, as it so cheap, and doing off road with a bike loaded up with camping gear isn't really that fun.

why are you heading to england first? have you people to visit or something? similar dates, so we'll definitely hook up.

Hey guys it is better to take a ferry down to Bilbao than ride across the France, money wise it is the same, you can have couple of pints on board
The motorway is quite boring and you will get exhausted for nothing.

Just have come back from Bordeaux and Arcachon (S/W France :Motomartin ) taking paid motorway South and half non-paid way back up North frequent road works.

Gotta say ..no adventure there.. except .. have got flashed by speed cam in the fast lane from back.. (will I get ticket for this? )

(just brain storming  )

But I need one serious advice here please guys… how to convince my girlfriend that leaving her at home is ok.. :comfort

B'couse im going to use the Plymouth-Santander route. I got a voucher to use for a 2 persons+bike+cabin and it's faster then Portsmouth-Bilbao route :D
Light offroad with full load bike on offroad tyres it sounds like a good fun for me.... ;)

better to get rest on the ferry  :ChrisKelly :jeiger then go across france :blast I have a friends in Zarautz(10km from San Sebastian) and in Malaga where i could leave my road tyres :D

Hi Martas & Casperghst42

Your travel dates around March/April sound good. Would like to tag along down the Plymouth/Santander route. My preference is for B&B's since I don't fancy lugging the camping gear around on a long trip.

B&B's are ok for me.Just lugging the camping stuff on my all long trips.Never knows where to stay over night :reynolds :camping

I prefer group of 4-5 bikes max (less peoples less problems) so who is actualy available to go and whats yours opinion???? I think is time to manage the group and plans...... :nenau

No no.... :rob just mix of everything. :D What about you Stef? Waiting for your plan and then we can compare with my.... or some1 else have a route plan?

i am meeting with spikerjack later this week to organise our trip and plan routes/pistes etc. We should be ready to enter Morocco at the border on the 1st April. Would certainly love to ride in a cluster of 4/5 bikes and are happy to camp or B&B. like martas, i might bring basic camping gear in case i find a nice spot by a river to bunk down for the night. i like being on the bike knowing that i'm self-contained and in need of nothing...except some food and fuel. excited at the thought...

Finally some info!

We have the intention to arrive Tanger Thursday, April 1st at 11 am with ferry Grand Navi Barcelona-Tanger (24hrs). Departure for return ferry expected sunday, april 11th at 19h00.

The ferry schedule for this time of year has not yet been announced so these exact dates are assuming the current schedule will not change.

Proposed route:

  • THU: Tanger-Chefchaouen (150km)
  • FRI: Chefchaouen-Fez (237Km): partial offroad with scenic routes and avoiding rif-mountains
  • SAT:Fez-Guercif-Missour (344Km): sealed road and brandnew from guercif to missour. take fuel at guercif for at least 200km. Fez-Azrou-Middelt-missour is nicer but will be considered on the spot due weather conditions
  • SUN: Missour-Boudnib-Arrachidia (288Km): track highly recommended yet not too difficult--fast gravel at first two dry riverbeds to cross---stretch of sealed road around Tajite---hit the main road again in Tazzouguert, splendid views, get prepared for your first camels.
  • MON:Arrachidia-Merzouga (184Km) will probably choose for the road via Erfoud alternative offroad with portions of loose sand/fesfes (duration 2days or more)
  • TUE: Merzouga-Zagora (250Km): at first n12 and offroad at Tazoulait or Alnif alternate portion by keeping n12 as unable to confirm my offroad-talents
  • WED: Zagora-Ouarzazate (190Km): sealed and very scenic (vallée du Draa) stayover at "the bikershome" owned by Peter (garage/tools/repair)
  • THU: Ouarzazate-Telouet-M/kech (210Km): at Telouet very scenic but narrow roads and many 4x4
  • FRI: M/kech-Agadir via Asni (250Km): sighseeing guaranteed (Tizi-n-Test)
  • SAT / SUN Agadir-Tanger (900KM): probably highway all the way. The idea is to drive 400/500kms per day to enjoy a very relaxed evening.

Estimated total distance around 3000Km.

We have pretty much correct data about gas stations (unleaded) enroute, places to stay overnight. Priority given on clean sheets and doorlock, as well as safe parking for bikes. However playing with idea of taking with me small tent, sleeping gear... The route is set for 80percent, as we are novices always in for more offroad but do not want to spoil the adventure. And last but not least, we welcome our British, Irish, Danish, ... fellow-riders and are willing to wait a couple of hrs at the border. Should we be too numerous, we can split enroute, take other tracks etc. and lookin forward yet for the evening chat.

One issue is that us Belgians can only be in Tangier on one specific day during the week (most likely Thursday) and we hope this means we are still able to meet up with others.

Thoughts?

Hi Stef,

This is pretty much the time/date when we will be rolling into the same place. So, we'll likely meet you. Your routes look good, but a bit too much tarmac for my liking. We can see how it pans out though. :aidan
