Was just wondering if it was feasible to nip over to morocco for a day trip or maybe a single overnight.....am staying for a week in barameda...just a last minute thought...how much for the ferry, what can realisticaly be acheived...just want a little taster...any info or idea's greatly received.:)

Yes it's possible, but you'd have to have an early start...you're looking at what, 90 mins to Tarifa from there?, that's 3 hours out of your round trip day already.

The fast ferry from Tarifa is 45 mins....the signs say 35, but its 45, so that's another hour and a half.......

Add an hour for getting through the border as a first timer, and you're not left with much of a day....Tanger itself is a nasty place, unless you're a fairly seasoned traveller...the closest place that I'd say is well worth a proper visit from there is probably Chefchaouen, and that's 2 hours from Tangers.

Make it an overnighter and it's a cracking idea, and I'd be happy to send you a few hotel details, routes etc, but as a day trip, I'd go to Ronda and then back on a different route if I were you, and save popping your Moroccan cherry for when you have more time to enjoy it properly ;)

EDIT...PS ferry for solo bike and rider about £80 return.
Check your insurance covers you in Morocco, its unlikely, so on top if not, add £20 for insurance at the border.

looks good

Hi Again
read up on Chefchaouen and it sounds fantastic , i think we may do it so i have a few more questions...there may be three bikes 6 people going , zzr1200 , fatboy and my gs/a will the others cope..as in is the road to chefchaouen paved?...could you recomend a hotel with somewhere for the bikes.....and are there any other formalities we need to know abot?...many thanks Craig

The road to Chefchouan is an excellent piece of tarmac as are most of the roads in Morocco.....but not all:)

There's a big hotel at the top of town with parking for bikes....and beer:thumb

Your best bet for getting quickly to Chefchaouen is to take the Algeciras to Ceuta ferry. Ask the ticket office in Algeciras for Moroccan police forms (per the Knowledgebase).

Ceuta is still Spanish, so you then ride south a few km to the border at Fnediq. Complete and print out your temporary bike import form before you leave home.

Once through the border take a right turn shortly afterwards for the short motorway to Tetouan, this is really quick and costs about 80p. Then just follow signs for Chefchouen. Easy peasy.
