Morocco HUMM May 2015

Weather don't look to promising for this weekend.

You were right! Weather held on Friday while Pete and I did the Bike Mechanics course at Black Desert Training but became overcast as we headed over to the Touratech and BMW ORS site and then the Ancient Briton pub for supper and check out the March Moto Madness set up. We stayed in a bunkhouse just up the road, but it was very wet the following morning so we headed home - lightweights huh? Didn't see anyone else from Wrong Direction though??!!

Next gathering is Sun 12 April on Salisbury Plain - details on the South West regional area of this forum.

How was the course? Was it useful?

Yeah, definitely but then mechanically I am a complete biff so for me it was all about confidence building and getting stuck in. It was useful to get some hands on experience at changing tyres and Craig gave us a pretty good idea of what sort of kit we should be taking with us, including some decent tyre levers! and I am pretty sure I could carry out a decent enough service on the bike now without too much bother. I think there is no question they are making good money with how much they charge but I definitely feel I got value for money. Having said all that, for you personally I'm not sure how keen I would have been to start stripping down my 3 week old bike :eek

At least I can now confidently fit my own tyres now. (In theory) :augie

Pete

Yeah, that did put me off a bit. :)

What did they say about tyre levers, I am just about to buy some. And what did you do to break the bead on the tyres?

You need some of these bad boys:

I found the type on the abbastands website although I am sure similar will suffice. Note the knobbly bit on the tip of the curved end. That's the useful bit.

In terms of breaking the bead, it was relatively easy as we were using an old off road wheel but we were reassured that if we used the correct method, we shouldn't have too much of an issue. It was the old 'side stand' method as seen on Youtube. Top tip, use some else's bike to break the bead, not yours with a tyre missing ;)

I agree with Pete, he also did all of the notetaking including tips on what other fixits to take along (two-pack metal bond putty and connectors etc) - I'm hoping he's going to share the knowledge, my memory is cr*p!

Well done boys, it will be great to have two fully trained mechanics on board.....:aidan

And of course 'mates rates' for fellow team members, everyone else full price :pullface

I will upload the notes I took from the course to Dropbox shortly. Just as soon as I have recovered from this man flu that would kill a civvie :barf

Anyone up for a spin down to West Bay -> coast Road -> Weymouth on Sunday or Monday?

Reading through some of this thread, you better check the weather for Monday and make sure it's not going to RAIN:D

LOL, I have already checked, it should be overcast, dry, around 12/13 degrees, only a little wind, which is totally acceptable. OK Monday it is then, meet at 11 o'clock (somewhere) shoot down to West bay, have a wander, then up along the coastal road to Weymouth.

I checked the forecast before I replied

I'm in Bristol, and you are in Bath if memory serves. I'll have a look at the map and find a suitable meeting up place.

I'm South of Bath in Foxcote, we go down through Shepton Mallet. If you go down the A37 we could meet you just past the junction where it meets the A367. Hows that sound?

I'd love to join you guys but we have family here at the weekend so the bike's stuck in the garage! Have fun - even if it does rain?!

I'd also love to join you guy. I'm in the uk with family so won't be able to make it

Hope the weather holds up

Got it, see you there at 11:00.

That actual junction is on a corner and not a wise place to wait, just 50 yards south past that junction is a small crossroads (The Old Frome Road) it would be safer to pull in there. Looking forward to it, I notice the weather may be a little warmer than forecast. So far it's Myself & Kathy, Patrick, Brian any other offers??

Evening gents. Just about in the land of the living now after an extreme case of man flu which I've had all week and I've just uploaded my notes from the trail fixes course. They are just the main points from the day which I thought might be useful to you all. Not long now boys!!...
