Morocco HUMM May 2015

It's a long way to walk.

I wont be walking Mark, I'm confident the shock and all spares will be here in time for fitment next weekend - feel free to drop in and lend a hand if you're free! The girls can have a natter and keep us in coffee before we celebrate in the pub afterwards!

Patrick I got to say I'm not really up for a session on the Plain less than a week before I hit French soil. More than happy to RV at the/a cafe though for some breakfast and some final last minute planning if there is an appetite amongst us all.

Sorry boys, I have been trying to sync the film and it says it will take 53 days!! The only other thing I could do is post it straight to Youtube but I not that good at editing whereby I can blur out everyones reg numbers and didn't want to just post them up all over the web in case anyone was bothered about it. (i'm just too considerate/or sh*t at editing, you decide!).

Pikey, Mark did have a thing for leaping of his bike horizontally and resting it on the panniers. Must be an RAF thing?! You should see the video footage.....

Mark, any news yet? Is it going to be back on the road in time??

Pete

Glad to hear the video still hasn't loaded, don't believe everything you see Patrick - I was trying to make the others look good!
I'm hoping I'll have the shock and bike back in service by next Sunday so I would like a ride out to check its working well - but NOT on the Plains again! How about we meet at the Cotswolds Camping place again - grab lunch, check plans and buy any last bits of kit?! Or we could meet at the (newer) Cotswolds shop in Bath?

Mark

Yes lets meet at Bibury in that pub at the end of the Bridge............could be called the Swan, it's nice there. Pick a day when it's nice so we can take the bikes.

There is a pub in Bibury called The Swan - see here. https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/The+Swan+Hotel/@51.7608912,-1.8346407,16z/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x0000000000000000:0xcfd2138fd5595d01. Its a bit further NE of Cotswolds, but assuming everyones happy to go that bit further, does anyone care to suggest a time - 1230? I think it'll have to be Sunday for me (i'll be fitting my shock on Saturday!) and if the weather's nice Mrs B will come along too!
Yes that's the one, it's a really nice spot, if it's nice we can sit in the garden, are we talking about Sunday the 26th??

This is just a suggestion, if anyone else has an alternative please share.

I'm in (subject to satisfactory rear shock fitment!). As I recall, first round is on Pete for his tyre saga 😉

Guys is this road orientated ? If your on a 1200 GS or similar large bike going off road down here loaded on any soft ground your going to die , we spent 15 hours in the desert 4 hours in a monster sandstorm, we were on 600cc rally raid type bikes. Pack as if your going to leave it in the sand, and walk away if its not road event. Overcast 45 degree's today.

The event is based in the Mid Atlas so not in the desert but we are planning on visiting the sandy bits! How much fun that will be remains to be seen.

Going on from what Bakerman has said, pack your bike ready for the trip lay it down and see if you can pick the bike up on your OWN if you can not you are in the shit.
The mountains over here are not like playing on Salisbury plains they are unforgiving.
We came across a French guy in the mountains who had been stuck there for two days and seen no one untill we came along the next village was 40khm away!
Yesterday we had to sit a sandstorm out for 4 hours you could not see the ground when on your bike, when the wind dropped you could see about 4 meters without GPS Track Logs we may have still be there now lost or even dead.
That was yesterday and tomorrow is another adventure we are heading back to the mountains.
So far we have coverd over 1000 miles mostly of road, we started as a group of 8 now we 6 as had problems with two bike that are now been transported back to Spain.
Remember pack your bike LIGHT, GPS THAT YOU KNOW HOW TO USE TRACK LOGS, WATER AND MORE WATER.
Also check that your phone will make calls in Morocco as two guys have had problems with EE network.

Instead of sitting round in pub gardens you would all do better by going to Mid Wales and riding some rocky mountain trails and getting bike fit you will need it!
If I was not in Morocco I would offer to guide you round Mid Wales so you get some practice in,the mountain trails over here are unforgiving with drop offs that go down and down

We stayed in Erg Chebbi Friday they told us about 2 guys that died last year only 2 k's out in the sand dunes.
If you manage to make it that far you will see why
