Morocco Trip Report - April 07

Whilst travelling with Selmeston on a trip to Morocco I kept a blog. I've now compiled the blogs into a pdf with pics. It's over 30 pages so a big mug of tea and a packet of chocolate Hob-Nobs is probably a good idea!

You did well facing all these adversities on your own. Great trip report.

I don't think you had the easiest of times with some of the people. I used to get really wound up with some of the antics in 'my youth', but I find I can handle it now.

My rule is never to give anything to anyone unless it's for a service or goods that I ask for. Otherwise be polite and calm and just say no. I very occasionally give to an old person, but the best thing if you really want to help is to give money to charity. Some tourists seem to think they are being kind by chucking handfuls of sweets out of the windows to the kids, but they are engendering a begging culture (not to mention a need for dentists).

To put things into context, a day's salary for a manual labourer working all day in the sun is somewhere between 80 and 120 dh. For a older woman doing menial jobs it can be as low as 40 dh. Yet some bikers think it's OK to pay someone €10 (100dh) to help them fill out a form at the border.

I think you were unlucky with some of the people you met.
