Anyone give me a rough idea of costs for a two week trip to Morroco inc Ferries Hotels etc. Will be going with wife perched on rear.

Trying to work out hpw much cheaper it will be sorting our own trip rather than an organised one. End of Sept/ Beginning of October time.

Probably go from Portsmouth/ Bilboa, two days down to S of Spain, 7 or 8 days in Morocco then back bilboa / Portsmouth.

Cheers

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Go Plymouth/Santander.

Portsmouth/Bilbao is 48hrs, you leave 4pm'ish, are trapped on the boat all next day, then arrive 8am'ish in Bilbao.

Plymouth/Santander goes overnight 4pm'ish and you arrive midday next day.

There, already saved you a boring day stuck on a boat spending your money, when you could be on the bike :D

Both come back overnight tho.

Don't know if it's changed since I went, but the Portsmouth route had your bikes down the side next to the cars, the Plymouth route has 4 big sections, 2 each end of the boat, specifically for bikes :thumb

I stayed in Ibis hotels last time, untli I got down past Marrakesh - they have a chain in all the big cities in Morocco too; Fez, Marrakesh, Meknes etc. Check them out here.

They either have secure car parks, or guys on watch too, which is a bonus.

If you go Erfoud / Merzouga way, try and stay in the Desert Inn. They also do trips out for a night in middle of nowhere in a Bedouin camp - altho there is a western style toilet & shower for the memsahib if she requires it :D

or you for that matter, if you eat the wrong thing :D

Around £1250 for the two of you including fuel and meals if you organise it yourself. You won't have the security of a backup vehicle or the knowledge of the group leader, but you'll have the fun of doing it all yourself.

The big cost is the overnight ferry Plymouth to Santander with cabin accommodation: £400 return. The ferry Algeciras to Ceuta: £25 return.

Accommodation in Morocco: allow £35-40 double B&B per night for European style hotels such as IBIS chain, down to less than £20 twin B&B for decent local-style. Meals anything from £3 to £8.

Petrol: about 60p/litre.

Consider using overnight motorail Madrid to Algeciras to maximise the time you have in Morocco. It would add £350 (return) but saves time, saves petrol and includes two nights accommodation.

Cheers Guys

that sounds more in line with my Budget, rather than £2000 for world of Bm* or £3000 with a local dealer.

I've just been looking at the World of BMVV booklet. When you include fuel and meals it would cost around £2000 for a solo rider, or £2600+ for a couple.

Mind you, that's for 17 days and probably quite good accommodation. The other advantage is that they've done it before and it should be smooth sailing.

don't forget that you'll need a few Euros (in cash) to 'assist' you passage into Morocco!

:D

But Tim, where's the fun in that?

I've done the Portsmouth crossing a few times and dont mind the voyage. For me its the better option than the Plymouth one. I would get more days on the Continent for less days holiday off my card. If I get the Tues sailing from Portsmouth I can ride down after work ( Leaves at 20:00). Plymouth means taking a day off to get down there.

The other option is the Saturday from Portsmouth which gets in at 08:00 on the Monday = full days riding. The Plymouth boat leaves Sunday and gets in at Midday on the Monday= 1/2 days riding.

also when the boat returns, I'll be home from Portsmouth in 45 Mins as opposed to 3 hours from Plymouth.

Whatever your happy with.

If you are going with the wife can I recommend you make time to stay at the Paradore in Ronda its incredible but you need to book early.
