MOT and LEDs

I asked re the changed MOT at the place I always go to and he said as long as the beam looks ok, they will pass it, got HID which is like a solar event happening.

Hey may not be as “sensible “ for an unknown/possible planted vosa bike.

Not worried about the MOT, more worried about if anything happens and you end up getting done for running an illegal light, which then buggers the insurance blah blah blah. Maybe I worry too much though :)

The MOT tests for light scatter and dazzle on dipped beam only. If that's OK the tests test passed. Construction and Use rules are not checked as they are not allowed to take lights apart. It's the same with exhausts. If there is no label that says "off road use only" and it's not too loud it will pass.

To me it's a no brainer. If I can't safety see where I'm going with a standard bulb I'll fit a better bulb. If I can get one that lasts longer (more reliable) and uses less power without affecting how the lamp works, then I'll use it. I wont tolerate poor focus or light scatter as that's clearly even more dangerous.

The GSA dipped and main beams with standard H7 Halogen are hopeless. I nearly hit the separation "island" at a dual carriageway lay-by, simply because I couldn't see it. There are no such issues with the LED bulb. The MOT tester was more than happy and actually complimented me on the headlight quality.
