My new bike gsa1150 which I bought from Dublin, has a Northern Ireland MOT, is this legal over here in the UK ? Or do I need to get the bike re tested to make it legal. Anyone help

Yup No worries The frame number should be on it too as the plate "should" be a southern irish registration (if it was in Dublin)

which shouldn't match the MOT cert as you can't MOT them with a foreign plate "but" you can on the frame number

Irish registarations are usually the year city or county and serial i.e 04 D 12345 this would be an 2004 registration in Dublin with serial number 12345

N Ireland Plates are varied but are usually three letters and up to 4 digits

Why would an Irish bike have a UK mot ? We don't have bike mot in Southern Ireland. The pic is of an Irish reg...........

I imagine you'll find out when you come to re-register it (assuming it's on Eire plates). It's actually illegal for a UK citizen to operate a vehicle on foreign plates, here in the UK.

mot

Thanks for the replies, seems it will be ok.
It probably would have helped if I got the details correct :D
I bought the bike from Ballymena nr Belfast, think Dublin was in my head from a looooong weekend there :beer:

Changed slightly "You can" (well here at least) while you are sorting out the crap and schite Red Tape bollox!

I know a guy riding his bike on a southern plate insured on frame number for a while now

He had to wait 3 months for an SVA test it failed for headlamp and he had to go through all the bollox again

Luke You can MOT (to import if over 10 years old or ISVA=fancy bollox test if under) the bike on its frame number with the intention of importing it

Or it went down there with a Norn Iron plate and was imported and still had MOT cert

Since Bob has come back and has confused Ballymena with Dublin All is now Clear :aidan

If he is leading any tours to Morroco I am not going with him!! We'd end up in UZeBeck-ee-stan or something similar

Big Brother is watching You

I understood that "If" you are in the process of "importing" permanently for your own personal use it was "permitted" provided it is insured Whilst waiting for UK plates BUT the insurance companies usually only allow you a 2 week window to complete the papers etc

MOT

Now I've not just lost my geographical location, I'm confused too :drool:drool
I'm waiting for the log book to be returned as sent to DVLA in Swansea see what they say about the 'reg plate'

If it is indeed a NI reg plate, usually 3 letters to include either a I or a Z, then 4 numbers, then you can use it in GB.
(A lot of the cherished plates in GB are actually NI plates. But you got yours for free!)

Bob everything is all above board and legal. Your MOT is valid and your V5 will be returned without issue. You do have the option of changing the registration number to a UK mainland one, but why bother? I brought my SE wannabe over to NI fom London and the only hiccup was Swansea wrote to me saying they could not update the records with me as the new owner as I'd taken the bike from the mainland to NI-all that was needed was to submit their letter to DVANI in Northern Ireland along with the tax disc and the V5 was issued and I retained the O2 plate. Your experience will be the reverse of mine. This time next year the process will be seamless as DVANI is being wound up and Swansea will deal with the UK in its entirety. Enjoy and ride safe.
