Where can I get a bike MOT'd in the North so that i can apply for the road tax. I live in Co. Galway so what would be the nearest

If you live in co. Galway you should be riding a bike registered in the republic and you can tax it without a mot. If it's northern Ireland reg you should re reg. it with your local tax office. There is no mot test in Southern Ireland JJH

However if the bikes details are not in the database then you will need to ring them on 0845 247 2471 Sorry I have not found a normal landline number from outside the UK for that

More info Here LINKY

Thanks Jaythro,
This is for the bikes that I have on SORN and are not using. I mainly use my 1200 but have some other BMW's that are not in use and are still on UK plate

If you are a not a full time resident of the republic e.g. working for under 6 months and can prove this - you needn't worry, you dont have to MOT it.

If you live here, your Bike can be confiscated by Revenue and not returned until you reg. it, pay the VRT owed and tax it

It is not unknown for a Bike with a 'yellow plate' to be reported to the Revenue, followed home and taken from its owner and only given back when all duties are paid.

It's not hard to pay - see here;

Hi Ogmios
I still have a house in the UK were all the bikes are registered, in the last 12 months I have been in Ireland less tn 6 weeks due to working overseas and it could end up the same next year. I have my workshop over here so that I can work on the bikes when I am at home. Brought the last 2 over on the back of a trailer so I could end up doing the same with the bikes if I put them back on the road.
What I was looking for was a way to MOT them without having to go back to the UK so that I could apply for the RFL.

Hadrian,
ah, right. Now i understand.

We do get a lot of people avoiding paying the VRT on imported vehicles here.
The Revenue do get rightly p1ssed off and in recent years have got very 'pro-active' in taking steps to obtain their pound of flesh. :augie

As your Bikes truly aren't on the road - you should get no grief from them.

Sorry - i cant help. :(

As Jay has linked to, you can apply for an MOT online. There is a test centre in Newry and I can post a waypoint should you ned it.
