Took the bike in for it's MOT today, left the tankbag on the bike only for the technician to say that I better remove it or it would fail!?!?!?!?!

In 45 years of biking I have never come across that before anyone else experience something similar:confused::confused::confused:

i would assume only if it interferes with the steering lock or does something like activating the horn or starter on full lock

That's bollocks, my tankbag is rarely off the bike (or any of my past bikes) and it's not something I've ever removed before an MOT, maybe in the past whoever's doing the MOT has done me a favour and taken it off for a minute, but they've never mentioned it.

Had my bike in Mitchells Inverness a couple of weeks ago. The tester couldn't get the headlamp high enough to give a reading. He asked the mechanic working next door to take a look, 30 seconds with a screwdriver was all it took.

Sounds like your guy couldn't be arsed. :nenau

Agreed if they can't use common sense i would not be returning....

I went to Dave in Aylth for years, helpful and a biker...

but lately i have been using Motatest in cupar, nice wee trip through and they have the bonus of a nice bakery across the road

He probably needs to make sure your cap doesn't leak, but can't interfere with the tank bag to check

MOT testers are no longer allowed to ...

tap lights

remove panels / panniers , TANK BAGS ect ( on cars you can't lift the carpet in the boot, to check a spare tyre).

on cars with flat floors under neath , you cannot remove that or inner panels to check ANYTHING .

if the can't see it it goes unchecked ....do you want a safe vehicle ? or not

if you actually realised how shite the current MOT standard is you would be amazed .
