When I bought my 1150 it came with a new (unfitted) motad decat pipe, chip, beowulf endcan and K&N.
I fitted the end can and was quite pleased... much lighter, nice burble at low speed, not too noisy. Virtually undetectable at 70.
At the weekend I got around to fitting the decat pipe and now I'm not sure whether to keep it on or not as there is a very notable increase in noise.
Good points.
Lighter than the cat making wheeling the bike out of the garage a bit easier.
The extra dB is encouraging me to be more gentle on the throttle - better MPG?
The extra noise when filtering (which I do regularly) is useful for announcing my approach.
It keeps the OE exhaust in good condition if I ever sell.
Bad points
It's noisier than I would like at all speeds.
Its likely to upset the neighbors if I ride off at 6:30am on a Sunday morning even on low throttle and certainly no idling while I faff about.
Have to keep swapping for the MOT.
Once the EPROM chip is fitted I guess there will be a reasonable performance gain... but the bikes not exactly slow anyway and any decent gain is likely mainly higher up the RPM range where i don't spend much time.
If someone were to ask for my opinion I think I wouldn't recommend them, I'm considering removing and selling with the Chip programmed for the can decat and filter.
for/against aside, the finish on the decat pipe is rubbish...I can't arc weld and have never tried but If I did try to weld two tubes together it would probably look something like what I have got. They haven't even cleaned the spatter off.
