Anyone have any experience setting up a motion-activated web cam as a security measure? Would welcome any advice re practicality, equipment etc.

I use a Foscam webcam I bought from ebay, works fine but the motion sensing is a bit fiddly to set up, if it is sensitive enough to pick up a moving person outside, then the wind moves trees enough to do so as well.

Maplins do a good range. I use two to monitor hedgehogs in the garden!
Many thanks for those responses. Our house is quite isolated in open countryside and we wanted to be able to monitor the property while we are away. The motion sensor wouldn't have to be particularly sensitive, as there is a private road into the property and it is likely that an intruder would arrive by car or van. One webcam trained on the road and one inside the house should be sufficient in the event of a break-in.
Where do you store your video footage? Does it go onto a hard drive somewhere or do you upload it to a website so that you can access any footage remotely?

Watch the action on your phone/ computer. If activated still pictures are emailed to you.
I have mine set to come on at night. Emails are checked every minute on my phone and have a specific loud sound so I know if the camera has been set off

Went to court a few weeks ago, he got a fifty pound fine and fifty pounds costs. Bet he thought it was a right result.
The firm who's diesel he stole reckon they had a £1000 worth go missing over a period of time. He was running his van on it, when it got low he would nick some more.
The police checked his van over for tax, tyres etc. but did not think to dip his tank.
