Hello again,

I've got the Hoggs and the only motorcycle feature they have is an extra strip of leather over the toe to stop the gear shifter wearing through the leather of the main, it may also offer some crush protection. The rest of the boot is as normal boot. I also have the three/four season Scarpa M3 that are tougher in every respect.

Having had Lowa's in the past i would say they are better quality than the Altbergs though my Lowa's were military style (can't remember exact model) so not sure how fair it is to compare the Hoggs.

I would say any good quality hiking boot would be OK. If you are worried about the gear shifter damaging your boot smear on a patch araldite - this has worked on my Sidi Adventures for the three years i have had them where my toe sometimes catches on the crash bars. Also if you do tactical lacing (basically skip the lacing eyelets near the front of your ankle - soldiers do this to allow kneeling firing stances) this will allow your ankle to bend a little easier when shifting / rear braking and take strain off your knee/ankle when doing long trips.

Best,

S

I have an old pair of lowa mountain gtx that need re soling and new insoles in
Size 9 come an collect and they are yours

I have never worn Altberg but did wear Lowa day in day out for work.

I found them totally waterproof and comfy straight out of the box and they got even comfier in a very short time.

Get yer Hoggs ordered and make do in the meantine. Best boots I've ever had, bit warm in this weather but excellent all year round. Just my 2 penneth:aidan

When I started out, I couldn't afford new boots. Used caterpillar boots with doses of dubbing for my first trip to Spain. Worked a treat

Hello S
thanks for great info about shoes.. i also seen lova is the better quality then altberg at silverman shop in london..only thing is missing in lova's boot is the ankle support. rest lova is the better boot..for walking and ridding.
i like two boot in lova one is the LOWA Combat Boot GORE-TEX high boot, 2nd LOWA Mountain Boot Brown GORE-TEX.. which one you like to ride and walk...

you right..lova comfy straight out of the box..this i seen at silverman shop. but altberg its very hard to wear and remove. becoz they dont have open laces hook in band of your feet.

It's another vote for ordering the Altbergs and making do in the meantime from here I'm afraid - this post from Oor Jim pretty much sold them for me.

20 years old, in almost daily use over the course of hundreds of thousands of miles and still going strong. That'll do me.
