Help!

Any tossers out there have any experience with Motor Cycle Seat Works?

Being vertically challenged as i am :o, i currently use a BMW low seat but find it hard on longer journeys, also the profile feels wrong for me, i am looking at getting the OE adjustable seat modified, ie lower and slimmer but with added comfort.

Anyone done or know of anyone whos done this via the above, or anyone else for that matter. :thumb

Ihad my ZZR600 seat re-done by Damon (I think) at Motorcycle seatworks. He did an excellent job of that with lots moe comfort.

I would suggest you fone and chat to him and see what he can do for you.

I am also planning on sending him a spare front that i have to get it made similar to a Sargent seat(I have one on at the mo, and a spare BMW pan).

Simon.

I used them for my R100GS (comfort seat conversion). Basically they didn't follow the style brief I gave them (made crystal clear with diagrams etc.). Made the seat narrower, which I didn't want doing (the original seat was more comfortable). The new cover is not symetrical and is held on with about 200 staples. They didn't even bother to trim off the old cover properly which meant I couldn't get it back on the bike without trimming back the bunched up bits of new cover. All in all a crap bit of work.
I didn't send it back as I needed it pronto for a Morocco trip. I've just put it down to experience and needless to say, will not be putting any more custom their way.
I'm sure they can produce decent stuff but I think I got the apprentice, or the apprentice's dog.

I would give Melvin Hunter a try:

I had the seat on an R1100RS recovered with gel inserts about 4 years ago - he did a great job, the seat became very comfortable albeit without lowering, (but he does offer this service). There is a piccie of my old bike in the owners gallery in the BMW RS section it's the one marked as 'double stitched' :thumb

Another vote for Melvin as well. He recovered and fitted gel inserts for my VTEC, excellent job.

What i would suggest is trying to get hold of a donor seat from a breakers or ebay, you can recover a lot of your costs if you part ex your bike in the future.
Dealers will not give you any extra for an expensive seat, but they always sell well privately.
Another tip, don't get colour matched seat edging for your bike try to stick with black, black goes with anything.

Melvin Hunter did the sesat on my hypermotard. They did a fantastic job.
I would definitely recommend him. I am going to get him to put a gel seat on my 650 when I have enough money.

Just spend the money on a Sargent low seat. That way you'll still have an intact BMW low seat to sell on here.
Sargent's are fabulous!:thumb

Thats what I did - after a few days bedding in the Sargent low seat is comfy.

A word of caution.

I had my seat done at motorcycle seatworks. After a few days, the seat seemed to lose its comfort. It was if i was sat on cardboard and Kapock.

I took the seat to a local upholsterer (whom I know) and asked his advice. He removed the seat cover and found - Carboard and Kapock

Thats £90 quid down the swanee! If I wasnt off on a trip in the next few days, I would be straight back there.

hopefully my upholsterer can sort it out. I was totally shocked and annoyed at this blatent rip Off:mad:
