Does the shackle have a rubber covering? If so, maybe trim a bit back, if it is stopping the lock and shackle hitting the optimum angle.

It did but I cut a bit off to allow me to use my Pragmasis noose chain. This combined with the fact that I can only find 2 of the 3 keys will, I suspect, make the conversation at SBS fairly short.

I'll probably keep this one for use in the garage and buy a DXL1000 when I next get a discount code.

I used a big chain and spinning padlock at Leenane

Problem solved and aa usual it was a problem entirely of my own making.
Before I set off for SBS I tried the lock again, numerous times, with the piece of rubber I'd removed back on the lock. It worked perfectly every time.
I'll leave it on there and only remove it when I have to use the noose chain as a noose chain, if that makes sense.

There lies ya problem.I also cut some of the rubber sleeve of my DX1000 and have exactly the same issue,can be a right bastard to lock. Obviously the buffer stop has gone so it needs to be aligned dead perfect,me D100 that hasn't been cut and I've had a fair while longer has never been an issue.

I was looking at one of those today, they do a longer version at £200. It looks like my 13mm Pragmasis loop chain will work with it too.

I’ll be interested to see how the Oxford S2 performs.
The S1 and S2 are wider than both Litelok and Hiplok.
I have a Litelok X1 but looking to get a second, longer lock so may get the S2 once I’ve seen John Millbank’s vid.

On a recent EU trip, I specifically avoided France because of stories like these. (Call me paranoid, but...)
I did read somewhere (MCN, I think) that Russia are allowing foreign stolen bikes to be registered by their citizens, no questions asked, from any country deemed "not friendly"
That includes pretty much all of Western Europe and the UK.
Hence there is a consensus (if there wasn't already) that organised gangs are pinching bikes to order, and that's where they are headed

France is a very big country. Take basic sensible precautions and worry less.



PS Stolen vehicles and equipment of all sorts, have been ‘exported’ for years. It’s nothing new. It doesn’t take a genius at MCN to work out (or guess) that, due to sanctions, the demand for otherwise unobtainable vehicles and goods might well increase in Russia.

We stayed in the countryside near Dieppe and also I stayed in Amiens, plus Thann for 2 nights in June
I didn’t feel at all unsafe in France
Just avoid big cities

Dijon, was recommended on the forum as a great place to stay, just recently.

Stay anywhere, within reason, and take sensible precautions.

PS If there are fewer bikes in the cities, thieves will move into the countryside. Be afraid; be very afraid.

We have never stayed in Reims as it’s a bit too early for us riding down from Yorkshire when using the tunnel. We have stayed in Troyes a few times and have found it a very pleasant place to stay. The hotel we have used has an underground parking garage so the bikes have been safe. It’s a reasonable day’s ride from Yorkshire using the peage.

Nah, Troyes is a shorter day now. Only from Rotterdam. A much shorter day at less than 350 miles. We might have to look to get a little further.

Exactly! Frankly I'd be more worried about riding in UK than in France for thefts.... As stated above avoid the big cities unless secure parking is allowed. I personally find France some of the best riding country in Europe. I am there 3-4 times a year and never had any worries.....

Tbh. Anywhere I go, I'm paranoid about the bike.
If I'm camping, I have a MotoTent style tent and the bike is in with me.
If I'm stopped somewhere, I'll stop where other bikers gather, safety in numbers?
Else I'll try and keep it within sight if that's at all possible.
If I'm off the beaten track (sight seeing in the middle of nowhere) I'll worry a bit less.

Obviously, if they take the bike, that's one huge headache.
The other issue is if you catch them in the act (I have done so once) the damage to the bike is (or could be) already done.
Broken steering lock and an unrideable bike, then the headache of getting the thing fixed.

It's a bit of a shame that you have to worry about your expensive pride and joy for the sake of some scallywags, who then dictate, to some level, where you (plan to) ride

I've had four stays in Reims and have always chained, locked up and alarmed my bike in a secure car park out of view (which I do everywhere as a matter of routine).

Bikermates have just resorted to their steering locks at the same time/place.
