Motorcycle USA Review,Comprehensive Ride Review

It is positive all round at the moment apart from one German Tractor reference in the USA from a journo who said it was hopeless off road (have a 150 kilo thumper) so why have an all-rounder of such weight for on-road.......completely missed the point.

AT LAST, FROM SOMEONE THAT HAS RIDDEN IT :thumb2

Unlike the American chump on ADVrider that spent 10 pages describing his flight and meals

:D I think 7 of those pages were people wondering where he'd got to, as all went quiet in SA as we know:rob:blast

Not quite - this review mentioned, as have a couple of others, the bikes tendency to shake it's head, at speed, on dirt.

I'm not knocking the bike, just pointing that out :thumb2

As per other thread

Shouldn't be an issue for UK Trailriders though as the TRF say 20mph is the maximum speed for UK byways.

:nenau

SLOW DOWN OFF ROAD...Think of the Horses, bobblehat wearers and dog walkers!!!!!!

Surely it's easier to bunny hop over them if you've got a bit more momentum.....:nenau

More likely to end up eating dirt from what I've seen of you guys on Salisbury plain ;)

:P

This tank slapping issue seems to be reported, at the moment, by two journos out of the considerable number that have ridden it. BMW have invited 300 to ride the bike over 5 weeks ( not sure if that includes dealers, probably does? ). It is a fact that at least two bikes had problems, not a large number in the scheme of things but potentially a damaging issue to the GS brand........?

Stiffer frame, longer swing arm, more stability claimed by electronic suspension........you have to suspect BMW will be working flat out to determine cause, they don't want a Suzuki TL1000 on their hands with the flagship bike!

All they have to do is take the two bikes in question, down the same road several hundred times, in the hands of someone who knows how to ride a big GS on the rough stuff, then sort the issue if there is one.:rob

Simple ehh.....:nenau Except that there are probably a number of variables which determine whether or not a short wobble turns into a full-blown tank slapper; rider size and weight being just one of them.

Exactly:thumb Would be good to know what the cause was and whether it was a faulty bike or rider error. Is it possible that the bike could have had a major drop off road before this happened, thus affecting the handling of the bike before it was looked at by a technician?:nenau

Reckon you should get your deposit back now, before it's too late......... :augie

"Motorcycle Sport & Leisure" arrived today - with a long ride report and a review of the GS history.

No Adventure model until 2014 at the earliest.

The new engine layout is interesting (integral gearbox, alternator at the back above the gearbox, left hand drive shaft like the 'K' bikes, vertical throttle bodies and more electronics than you could shake a stick at :blast).

Bob.
