Motorcycle weatherproof cover

I have my 1200 GSA parked on the drive and need to get a decent weatherproof cover as the existing one is falling to bits.

I don't mind paying if the quality is good, also things like passing the chain through it would be an advantage.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a decent make and size of cover that would fit the beast.

I use Dust Off covers' Heavy Duty for my GS. Good quality heavy duty polyester, with a vent and canvas heat resistant bottom. It's also elasticated around the bottom, has a strap that goes under the bike and a soft bit for the screen.

My GS has been fine under it in all the rain and snow we've had recently.

I use an XL, which is plenty big enough for a GS, with vario panniers and a top box ( it'll take them extended at a squeeze), plus the bike has engine bars. All in all I'm pleased with it.

Try Motrax.

I have one of theirs, it's waterproof, has soft areas underneath & dedicated sewn in holes for the chain to lock it up with.

I don't know the model name though

Oxford Rainex

I've got a large Oxford Rainex cover, fits over my GSA even with the top-box and panniers, but it doesn't go all the way to the floor.

Also, despite having paid over £50 for it, the seams cracked at the red "slits" (at the front where you fit your chain) after only a couple of weeks gentle and careful use...

But all in all it does the job nicely, it fits in the right pannier when folded, and it's fairly light for its size.

Incidently, my neighbour's cats now sleep on the bike at night, under the cover, and they soil the seats with their cat-pee-covered little paws...

... and since I sprinkle black pepper on the seats... no more sitting on cat-pee !!! (Don't call the RSPCA, I didn't sprinkle the cats!)

If you can lay yer hands on a knackered old and dirty tarpaulin bike cover, chuck that on as well. If your bike is on the drive and is vulnerable to theft, then dumb it down a bit. Let people think there's a knackered old CX500 under the cover!

Pity I didn't see your post before. I've spent a lot of time researching the various alternatives and for me, the only answer is the Cycleshell. I had to bring it in from the States but it is the only system that incorporates a solid base to park on and an easy cover/uncover process.

Yup - it is a bit pricey but it really is good. I had a look at the bike hut too (and the bike barn) and the Cycleshell seems to be constructed of higher quality materials, seals around the solid base etc. The only place I can park my bike is a soft surface so the solid platform works for me and it has a weatherproof seal between the bottom of the cover and the platform.

The only downside is that I can't work on the bike under it as you can with the bike hut.

I have the "EZ-Touring" that works well. I bought a can of UV/water repellent to spray on it. They are made of parachute material.

I used the BMW one that they have recently brought out for my GS, generally quite impressed. Goes to about 5 inches from the ground but you need ventilation anyway Also has a cord threaded around the circumference at the middle as well as the bottom which stops it from taking of in high winds, which used to happen to my other one. Plus its Black and looks smart, so the wife doesn't moan...too much.

i cant praise the Dri Top enough
fits my GSA perfect
doesnt touch the bike at all
100% waterproof
park it after a run when the exhaust is red hot
lift the frame
bung it on the stand
pull the cover down and walk off
i can stand up inside if i need to

Oxford Stormex - kept my GS clean and dry throughout recent snow, sleet, rain, hail, etc - heavier duty than the rainex. Large covers everything even panniers.
