And buy these

Works perfectly . Comes as a pair so stick one on each jacket sleeve but don’t forget to swap sides when you head back home as the sensors are on the other side

I’d rather stick my todger into a wasp nest.

I use a Bip & Go tag which is linked to my Caxton account but when they bill the account it refuses to pay out so they then send me a email to let me know the payment has failed, so I go into my online account with the tag company and pay the bill with my Caxton card. Works every time.

If you are going to Spain. Portugal or Italy you have to link the tag to the registration of the vehicle you are using.

Silly question time -

I know that being on a bike you should use the toll intended for bikes, otherwise you can get charged as a car.
But, approaching the tolls with cars and trucks whizzing around you and swapping lanes like some crazy video game it’s not always easy to see which is marked for motorcycles.
I believe those with the height restriction are for us and that’s OK, but otherwise how do you know? The far left hand ones? Which ones do you head for?

No one zips like crazy.
Indicate and get on your lane.

The ones with the height restriction, yes, are the ones intended for bikes.

I never used the other ones, but I believe you can ask for the fare to be corrected after in case.

There is a few videos with all the type of gates I posted some months ago in this thread.

Exactly right. The motoways display huge notice boards about a kilometre before the barriers, advising that the payage barrier is ahead. They do not suddenly appear. The signs above the individual lanes are huge and clear to see.

The most common problem occurs after the barrier, when bikermate X (who has used the leftmost lane) then decides to cross to his right, to go into the lay-by and wait for his mates. In doing so, he crosses the other lanes… often not the smartest of manoeuvres. But hey, numpties on two wheels are not uncommon.

Apologies I wrote something incorrect above. The ones with the height restrictions are not for bikes. Avoid those (usually on the left, and usually just in northen france as the gates in the south network are all "fast".

In northen France you have to stop (or almost stop) at the bar. Hence the differentiation of the gates.
In the south they all open as you go through, same as in Italy.

[edit]
i see you corrected your post just as i posted this....:D

that is interesting, the ones with height restrictions usually have a red circle with a car in it (and sometimes have a no bike sign) so i assumed that these ones are for cars only all the time - i was going through ones that had the 'T' symbol but not restricted in height/cars.

No it's a bike in the sign.

Anyway, rundown:

Telepass gates in Italy are all the same for all the vehicles. They are normally either at the left or right (or both) of the toll.
The lanes are indicated a couple of miles before the lane, easy.

I have a small video for that too, but my car windscreen is very narrow... so not much to see in reality. :D
Just aim for the yellow :)

Ye – I remembered it the other way round :)
Also, again, that differentiation exists only in the northen part of the motorway.

I'm traveling through all of France tomorrow (I'm in Italy at the moment) and I can triple check.
Also, I'm by car, so will deffo go through the height restricted ones :)

That caught me out this year, much unhappiness behind me. I bypassed Northern France to get to Italy, but went through it on the return.

Never a daft question ! On the peage you can use any lane on a bike except for those marked with the no motorcycle signs and which usually have height barriers. The only time this doesn't apply is on some of the toll bridges where can be a dedicated motorcycle lane (usually the right-most one & often hidden behind lorries) as bikes don't pay on these bridges and a tag won't activate the barrier in a normal lane for a class 5 vehicle (although pressing the button will prompt the attendant to gently admonish you and let you through free  ). These are marked a good distance in advance of the bridge. An example of this is on the way into Le Havre.

Yesterday, I used my Sanef tag for the first time in a while. I’m in our 4.25 tonne motorhome towing a 1.5 tonne trailer.

I roll up to the first peage barrier, and what happens? Sweet FA!

The lane is sooo narrow I can’t open a door either side and I’ve gone past the ‘Press this knob for help’ button.

On go the hazards and I sit there waiting for Pierre to come to my assistance. After about 5 minutes, I realise that I’m in France and Pierre is probably slurping his 5th Americano and chomping another croissant. Pierre isn’t coming.

I check the rear camera. Nobody behind, so I reverse back a few feet to the Help knob.

At this point I should say that it doesn’t help one bit that I’m on my own - Mrs M is flying out this afternoon.

Ours being an A Class, it only has a small slider window on the passenger side. I undo my belt and step across.

Of course, the window is too high for the car Help knob and too low for the trucker knob.

Luckily, I’m double jointed through out my left arm and manage to hit the knob.

In my very best Frog, I explain that the telepeage thing hasn’t worked.

Pierre’s immediate answer: “The barrier is open. Bon journey”

Fuck!

Before talking with the assistance people (I do not speak any French at all) always try to scan the barcode on the blipper (if you can reach, that is :D ). There is a code reader on the column, near the help button.
Had to do it once and worked fine.

I only had one hiccup

One toll station decided not to see the tag, so i got a ticket, as i pulled away all the alarms went off, nothing happened

My bill showed the wrong class & charge for that section

A quick email, and it was corrected and refunded

I'm beginning to regret my success in finally working out how to get one of these blipper things.
