Motorway fuel economy

I think that's about 10 mpg shy of what you should be getting as an optimum figure. The last time I did lots of motorway miles was a couple of years ago on my '09 bike and I was getting about 52 mpg. My current twin cam gets ridden quite hard on A roads and B roads and it's currently showing 49.5 mpg on 99 octane.

A pretty constant 90-100mph returned 43.6mpg.

Usually around 50mpg on a mixed road commute.

I just did a 1500 mile trip round France Belgium and Germany including about 600 miles of motorway Hull to Dover and back and the bike averaged 53 on the computer fully loaded with camping gear rider only no passenger.

52mpg on motorways, cruising at 70 - 90mph. 2010 TC bike.

I'd be disappointed with low forties and trying to work out what was wrong.

Rode from Stirling down to Wells a few weeks ago (407 miles). 51 MPG down on the motorways averaging 75 MPH, single rider with luggage.

Yes but have you seen the costs if you book last thing the saving is worth the ride to dover.

Hull's 57 miles from me, Eurotunnel's 198 miles but I always go through the chunnel. It's quicker, cheaper & far more convenient.

That do you get at motorway speeds, 70-80mph ish?
I'm getting low 40's is this about right?
Cheers

Seems a bit high.

My 09 GSA never drops below 43mpg, even at a sustained 100 mph fully loaded.
With average mpg of around 48mpg.

Running on 95ron with Accelerator Module.

:thumby:

My commute is half an hour mostly fast A road and motorway. Driving at speeds appropriate for conditions  gives me 46-48. Bike has been to Hilltop, but this didn't seem to affect economy much.

With or without panniers?

I get about 44 on a TC GSA on motorway with panniers.

2011 GSA with 15 stone and topbox, sticking to 70mph gave 53mpg on the way to it's service last week. On the way back it was 46mpg :nenau:nenau. Now it has all settled down, it was doing 51mpg yesterday.:)

70-80 steady runs on dual carriageways see's my read out at 53mpg, I reset from time to time, fuel usage seems correct checking with trip meter, miles done and cash spent.

Recent run through Holland, Germany, Denmark motorway/autobahn solo rider, panniers, 2No. 40l dry bags saw the average increase to 56mpg, after 1900 miles in Norway it went back to 51mpg, same run back through Denmark, Germany, Holland rising to 55/56mpg.

So low 40's even with part full panniers seems low - to me.

Long runs should increase mpg.:thumb2

I have a Mk2 GSA. Recently replaced both primary coils and one O2 sensor. With full luggage on the motorway, I get about 47 or 48 mpg But Im not hanging about. With no luggage that improves to 52 or 53mpg and 51mpg with top case only. The trip and brim to brim tank fills agree with less than one mpg.

When one coil was failing my mpg went into the low 40s. When it got bad enough to carbon up the O2 sensor I was seeing 35mpg.

What a shame the fuel gauge loses its accuracy at low fuel levels. Ive had a couple of times where its been touch and go because I didn't stop for fuel soon enough. The last one I missed the M-way exit with 25 miles showing on the range and had to tootle very carefully until the next service area came up. I was seeing 65mpg on the trip and judging by the total range when I did fill it was probably about right.

I ride to the Ardennes twice a month, i get about 42 to 43mpg at 85 to 90mph, it has been in the high 30's if i ride quicker, the most ive ever had whilst riding at stupid slow speeds in Switzerland was about 47mpg

2011 TC GSA.

1-up/2-up display always seems to read 48.7 :nenau

the only time i've checked the real consumption was 2 up on motorway, loaded at 80/90mph and it was doing 41 even though the display said 48.7. i never checked it again after that, didn't want the depression :P
