Now then!
My new job involves a 70 mile round trip, almost exclusively motorway (Liverpool superb to Manchester Airport and back). I have a cheap little petrol hatchback that will do 40mpg that I'll use in the winer months, but parking at the airport is a right faff involving remote car parks buses and then more faff crossing airside within the secure zone. Much faster will be riding and parking as close as possible to my office which will cut down on the faff and mean I won't get stuck in motorway traffic that often (I work shift with odd start/finish times so not on the road at rush hour often). I already have a load of rukka gear so there's no outlay there/
My initial thought was a 1200 GSA (used to have an oilhead 1150 with luggage and loved that, apart from the lack in power) but fuel prices being what they are these days, I went hunting for most fuel efficient options. A Honda CG125 is out of the question; I want to cruise at 70mph and still have the option to go quicker to avoid knob heads and, when travelling at quiet times... possibly make progress ahem.
Yamaha XMAX 300 scoot seems to be the next best option, however I expect the quoted 80mpg will drop away quickly when sitting at 70mph. Wondering if a bigger capacity bike (say Honda NC750X or Yammie Tenere), while having a lower quoted mpg figure, will actually return better mpg at motorway speeds?
This commute just by itself will add up to cica 12000K miles per year - while I have a Husky 701 supermoto fun bike (and a project bike that will replace it once I've sorted it) ideally I'd also like something that isn't totally hateful and I might actually want to ride on my days off, take the odd touring holiday on etc. I had a Yamaha Versys 650 years ago and to be fair, couldn't be bothered to ride it outside of commuting.
1250GSA out of my budget constraints, what kind of mpg can I expect out of a 1200GSA at 70ish mph? I know I can consult fully/honestjohn but they only quoted mixed use average figures.
Thoughts?
