Greetings...new to the GS family after recently owning a K1200RS and made the switch.

Have picked up a 2001 R1150GS with 30k on the clock..km's

With the help of this site and it's wealth of info I have been able to do a complete service myself including adjusting valve clearances etc...big deal for me as I would have never attempted this on the K. Feels great not to have to pay a fortune for a bike shop to do this. Sorry bike mechanics.

Anyway was going to attempt a TPS reset and found two curious things. First had no voltage after putting the wires in T1 and T4 with ignition on. And secondly after looking at service manual found there was a relay not there. It's position 3 on the relays and it says it is the coded plug for the Motronic.

The Motronic relay appears to be there as does the Motronic diagnostic plug Fuse.

Bike runs sweet and was only interested to see what voltage I was getting.

Is it normal on this model to not have the relay no. 3?

Cheers

very normal... many owners take them out. in some markets there's none fitted. dont worry about it.

I think the motronic coded plug allows you to select different fuelling maps. If there is nothing there then it will be bog standard, if you have a remus, open pipe, y piece etc then there would either be a link between two of the contacts or a plug (which contains a link that links two of the contacts).

I think there is also a link if you intend running on that rubbish fuel (85 octane) - Steptoe has posted something about it in the past.

He did say his bike 'runs sweet' - so why complicate matters?

I did consider mentioning the 'catcode' plug and mod... but why give the poor guy a migraine??

if it ain't broke.......

True - although he may have wanted to know why some bikes have them and some don't. HKBiker said that he had performed a full service including valve gear adjustment and was about to perform a TPS reset so he must be reasonably competent :nenau
