ordered the oil... so its not an oil thread... (7100 4T 5W-40 Motul)
but whats the best oil filter... std BM one... or K&N or Mahle... any thoughts??

Also, may as well do the air filter as I'm at it... Std ?

No warranty now... but guess std is best on both items ;)

Hi Flo filter from Eblag

My filter came free with the Motul oil.

IMHO changing the oil and filter every 6 months with Hi Flo will be fine. Air filter was from MandP £10.99

Mine will be done end of Sept and I be the oil will be still good. Modern petrol engines in cars that rev to 8 and 9k have oil changes 10k plus.

thanks for that

My oil has about 5K on it now... it is quite dark in colour where as my Suzuki 1200, it looks like it did when it went in... but looking at all BM's, they go dark, so obviously picking something up over the Jap stuff...
Filter is the most important bit IMO... did have a Hi-Flo go bad on me a few years ago, so avoid them... Mahle or OE I guess... looks like they are the same thing :)

5k is about 8000kms so you have a 2000km window to change oil, my dealer says oil every year or 10,000kms whichever comes first.

I want new in as it's also 18 months old... And I then have a start point. Bit of Redex through the system before the change.. will work a world or good IMO... Assuming Redex does not harm any internal coatings.. the 10 month it was in the shop for sale, I think they started it on the side stand a good few times.. so Redex should do it some good?

BMW have their own style of Redex, not sure what the difference is, says with techron technology, its called BMW Group Fuel System Cleaner Plus, but they say it is just a rebranded Chevron made techron

MOTUL 7100 5-40 with BMW original oil filter is the best choice...:thumb2
