I'm just back from my first trip to Morocco. I'll post a full report shortly. meantime:
1 - If in Assilah, I thoroughly recommend Christina's House ( formerly Assilah Guest House) lovely modenised house in old town, guarded parking nearby, B & B in ensuite for about 14 euros a night ! It's an excellent first stop for a night or two.
2 - Moulay Idriss town - the travel guides are complete rubbish. Far from being hostile to non-muslims, or a place not to linger overnight, it is undoubtedly the friendliest, most welcoming place I have ever visited anywhere. Everybody, from youngest to oldest, says hello and the place really comes alive in the evenings. Even though I was only there a few days I already feel like one of the family. Well worth spending some time there rather than just passing through if you want to savour ordinary Moroccan life. Dar Zerhoune (www.buttonsinn.com), where I stayed, is totally excellent. Friendly, welcoming, lovely restored house and again, you feel as though your are staying with friends, which you soon discover is in fact the case. If like me you want to get under the skin of a place a little instead of just passing through with a camera, this is a good place to do it.
More anon.
