Not sure whether this should have been posted in the airhead section, but here goes.

I've just bought a bike console thingy from Colin at Ridermount.com. I'm happy with the holder however, there's no where to stick it on my handle bars as there's no room.

I only have the narrow bar across the handle bars, which I'm not convinced is thick enough to take the weight of my iPhone, with vibration.

Is there a bar I can connect to it, or a thing that makes it thicker so the case can be firmly positioned?

I look forward to your ideas.

Hi

I have just done much research on this very point :-)

There are basically 3 types....a mounting bar like this one.....although they seem a little bit agricultural....probably great for mongolia - probably blocks the clocks a bit on the Fulham Palace Road. Also available from Nippy Norman.

....some combination of Ram Mounts with ball and socket, so that you can arrange the device to wherever you want - these seem very popular with the folks on UKGSR, who mainly appear to mount sat navs on the handle bars next to the wing mirror...mainly because their eye sight can see as far as the dash as far as i can tell. But I think these look all a bit heath robinson and with a number of bits fitting together seem to increase the likelihood of it slipping and vibrating. But I may be wrong....

...and then the third type which I went for, the arm that attaches to the windscreen support. These seemed by far the best solution. I was emailing buybits.com asking their opinion and they kept want to sell me ram mounts - I asked about a Migsel arm they sold for £145 and why I'd want it and they just said most people wanted a cheap solution. Anyway - of the arms, most appear to have a blanking plate on the end for you to screw the sat nav to - the one I have ordered from Alder just has the bar, which works with the case I'm getting. Hopefully.

There was one which was a combination of a bracket on the windscreen and the ram mount, which I almost went for.

I figured that you weren't saving a great deal with the Ram Mounts compared to the £85 Alder mount once you had all the various bits and pieces. Anyhoo - my lot is all in the post. Schtum posted some photos of the Alder on anothe thread.

You've gone back to being blonde, Tim. :augie

The OP appears to have a G/S , ie either R80 or R100 G/S - one of the original airhead bikes from the 80's or 90's. So the bits you've identified won't fit.

16 mm for the bar on the Alder mount, as I posted on the other thread, BTW.
