Has anyone thought of mounting Hella Micro DE's upside down to make them into more af a 'high beam support' than a fog light/running light?

i.e.

If your dipped beam is adjusted correctly, the main beam points at low flying aircraft (on a 1200) - therefore the upside down Micro DE could 'fill-in' the middle ground.

Anyone thought about it/tested it? or is it a stupid idea?

(just waiting for the firest person to say - 'don't waist your time, buy proper lights for their proper purpose' (but I have 2 sets of Micro DE's handy and, more importantly for a Yorkshire man, without forking out extra cash!).

As the DEs are classed as fog lights they are better suited mounted as low as possible. The danger in a) mounting them to high or b) trying to get them to illuminate further than they are designed is that you will loose that very nice low beam pattern.

Just a thought regarding the main beam and how high it is pointing.

Have you or anyone else replaced the main beam bulb?

Just check that it has been fitted correctly.

Not as daft as it sounds to be honest, the aperture that the bulbs sits in is quite a close toleranced fit. It is therefore possible that it is not sitting fully home, hence the upwards beam pattern.

I have seen a few bikes like this, including my own. Not fitted by yours truly I hasten to add!!!

If you need more light on main beam, then IMHO go for the FF50 driving lights, tried and tested. :thumb

I'm guessing that there must be some kind of sheilding inside the DE that causes the beam pattern to cut off. Perhaps this could be removed to act as a spotlight? :nenau

Indeed there is, but the unit is bonded together making access to it near impossible.

Plus the fact even if you did remove it, the projector styled lense is not suited to be used as a spot light.

It is designed for maximum spread and not distance :thumb2
