I was reluctant to post this thread having read many 'do a search' responses to similar queries. Well I've searched and not found the answer.

Having looked at plenty of posts and having spoken to Nippy Norman, I was expecting to be a 5-minute straight replacement job. I have the NN canbus adaptor plug so the wiring's not an issue.

What I'd like to know is where you locate the new horn?

I've got ESA suspension and there seems to be no room using the existing bracket with the horn facing the suspension unit (same way as original). On the other side there's a small frame tube that the tank and bodywork hangs off - not sufficient space and it would foul the forks on full lock.

Therefore I'm assuming that it's not going to fit using the original bracket/location and I've been searching for alternatives.

There's an indent on the inside of the R/H tank (viewed from the front) which I believe houses an emissions canister in some markets. There's a couple of threaded inserts which a bracket could be mounted off. It's possible to position the horn there using one of the flimsy brackets supplied with the horn, although it's still close to the forks and it does seem to shake and wobble around in that location and may well foul something over time.

Are there any other options? A photo of an ESA Stebel Magnum installation would be much appreciated :thumb2

The sun's shining and I'm still in the bloody garage :tears

I was looking at this same problem the other day for about about an hour.

I dont think it can be (safely) done.
I did consider fitting it to the engine bars near the fog lights but it would look crap.

Give up and ride the thing.

i have not looked into this but I did have an 05 1200rt that had a fantastic horn, sounded like a truck. I know that later ones do not have the same horn but I wonder how big that horn was and if it is possable to mount it in a GSA

The RT blaster horn is in fact a twin horn, both bigger than the pancake style pizza delivery style horn fiitted to GS/GSA & RT(now). So I'd say if the Magnum won't fit the old RT twin horns definitely won't. I put the magnum on my old GS but that wasn't ESA equiped.

Thank you for the feedback. I've continued to look for a safe spot and now think that it can be mounted OK in the indent on the inner side of fuel tank facing the original bracket.

There's a captive thread there and if you use both the supplied bendy brackets back-to-back, then it seems to provide sufficient rigidity. It's also only a couple of inches from the canbus plug.

The horn points forward & slightly down in this spot which should help drain any rainwater thrown up by the front wheel. No problem with the suspension clearance and the forks miss by circa 15mm. Will only discover if it rattles after a test run.

I'll finish it off tomorrow and post pics if it works out OK.

Please let me know if you've found a better spot to mount the hardware, preferably before I snip those wires!.

Thanks, That saves me an enquiry at the dealers.

your name "blaster horn" is very approprate, I remember it scared the s**t out of me the first time I used it. All bikes should have a horn like that.

I'm expecting a shipment for my (new to me) '08 GSA from Nippies tomorrow - included will be a Stebel Magnum horn and Canbus adapter so I'm interested in this thread. I have twin Fiam's on my K1100RS which are brilliant so I wanted to upgrade the feeble standard horn on the GSA. I thought buying the Canbus adapter meant no sniping of any wires? Thats what I thought I was buying anyway.

Did you have to take the beak off? Looking at this job it seems easy but are there any hidden pitfalls?

I've done over a 1000 miles on a mixture of roads with mine fitted in the indent mentioned and it hasn't moved at all, there's plenty of clearance with the right hand fork when turned

NN do a canbus plug for the horn, if you do a search, which saves slicing wiring and makes it plug and play

Thanks for the warning, however by snipping wires I meant shortening the wires on the NN canbus adaptor to the required length before putting on the spade connectors. It would be tough to reposition the horn after that's done!

Just wondering why you guys go for the poxy :) Magnum horn instead of the proper Nautilus?

Make sure you read the last post, too. This is the solution to all your problems. I mounted the new bracket on a mounting point that's a couple of cm further up towards the fork yoke (when looking at the OEM mounting point from underneath).

This, of course, will also work for the light-weight, softly-spoken Magnum horn :comfort!

Went for the "poxy" Magnum horn since NN say the Nautilus can't be fitted to an '08 GSA. I didn't question it any further plus the Magnum has to be much better than the OEM horn (a duck would be). Plus I'm lousy at fabricating anything so if there's too much involved I shy away.

I never thought I'd be asking for pics of another man's horn

I'll finish it off tomorrow and post pics if it works out OK.

Any pics?
