Moving to Devon

We are due to get a bit more of that reason today, the wind is building as I type.

Yup and BF cancelled our 22:00 Plymouth - Roscoff sailing tonight as a result. Now got a 3.5 hr drive to Pompey instead of a 5 min drive to Millbay docks. Oh well some you win, etc.
What a beautiful period house. Those sliding sash windows are stunning. I imagine it's grade 2 listed?
We have similar plans to leave Cardiff for my wife's native Cornwall, but we are a few years off yet.

We came back in the campervan from Roscoff yesterday afternoon, we got a message Friday morning saying times were the same but the boat was Pont Aven instead of Amorique due to future adverse weather conditions, it was like a millpond coming back so I assumed they wanted the bigger boat in Plymouth for todays crossings.

Surprised it's not listed TBH. Surely must be some kind of conservation order on it at that age? Good luck with the cob ... I prefer Victorian brick

The channel certainly wasn't millpond-like last night - Bretagne was rolling around in a very lively fashion
One downside of living in the SW is that the BF winter sailings from Plymouth & Poole are very inconsistent. Eg this winter there are none! This is making us reconsider moving further down the SW into Cornwall as the roads & travelling time to Pompey aren't great.
As most of our recent trips have been to the eastern side of France and down into Germany or Italy we have been driving to Dover late at night for an early morning crossing but it’s been a real pain recently with overnight road closures and delays at Dover so we used Poole this time and is was painless, haven’t been out from Plymouth for a while but the trip back on Saturday was fine as Pont Aven is a far nicer boat but half a mile out from Plymouth they put all the shutters down on the forward facing lounge windows!!The channel certainly wasn't millpond-like last night - Bretagne was rolling around in a very lively fashion

We looked at a couple of houses in Budliegh several years back but decided to stay in Exmouth, at the time it felt a bit too quiet.

Dover is a bit far for us as our place is in Chinon so a long drive once in France and stopovers eat into holiday time. Our favourite port on the French side is St Malo as a) it's a nice place to visit and b) it's less of a drive to our place, but BF charge a not-insignificant amount to go there and they don't sail to there from Plymouth any more. We're looking for a place in the UK as a foothold once my partner retires and we spend most of our time in France using our house there as a base to explore Europe. We're selling our place in Dorset which is an ideal spot but too far away from elderly parents and partner's job. Current thoughts are Honiton or Tavistock but we may have to slum it in our 1 bed flat in Plymouth for a while while we look at options!

You'll have to come and visit if I manage to get someone to accept an offer. Hopefully 2025 and i'll be moved in as well.
