Cowering in a solipsistic funk
I've been reading back in this forum a bit about the mileage others are getting fom their 1200s. A lot of people are saying they get over 55mpg, and BMW claim up to 60mpg I think.

However, my bike does 45mpg. It doesn't matter how I ride it, thrashing on the twisties, motorway cruising, or round town, whenever I fill up it will be bang on 1 litre for every 10 miles on the trip counter. Which equates to 45mpg.

Am I fussing over nothing? Or might I have a problem? Will it improve with age? Bike just ticked over 2000 miles this weekend.

Exactly the same mileage for me. I have done approx. the same number of miles. Treated gently for first 600 miles - revs kept below the limit apart from a few brief excursions, but ridden progressively since then.

I'm still running in (650 miles now) and i'm getting 'in the realms of' 40mpg, which is a daily mix of town (50%) motorway (40%) rural (10%)

I'm hoping it will get a bit better as it beds in.

On average getting between 45 and 50 MPG, on a decent run.

Commuting 10 miles of stop start filtering and 4 miles at 60 odd is far worse.

But on a weekend run A & B roads seem to get up to about 50 MPG.

Motorway's when I do them drop the figures back down but then this isn't sitting at 70 mph.

On a recent excursion to through Spain and France I averaged a little over 50mpg. Riding at high speed 90+ reduced the fuel consumption to just over 40mpg. I have 2500 miles on the bike and the fuel consumption is improving as the engine loosens up. I have just fitted a full Remus System so it will be interesting to see if that has any effect on the mpg.

I've gotten a large variation in fuel mileage (using US gallons). The lowest was 31.3 mpg doing 180 miles on a racetrack during a trackday.

Highest was 58mpg doing 175 miles at 70mph in Nevada. Might have had a slight quartering side-wind from the rear.

Typical mileage is around 46-52 miles per US gallon on an R12GS with with 13,000 miles on the odometer.

Even at 45 mpg you're getting far more smiles per miles per gallon than practically any other motorist.....

put the spreadsheet away and go ride the beasty.......5 mpg diference won't matter two hoots when ya deeeed.

;) :P :P

I don't know what they did to my bike at the 10,000km service, but the range on a tankful is now considerably more than it was before the service. Previously the low indication would come on at about 320km, now it's closer to 350 or 360. Overall about 20 km/l (or 5l/100km).

Oh I quite agree Mr Fanum :P

And for the record, I don't use a spreadsheet, I'm one of the generation that can do simple sums in our heads :D

I'd just quite like to enjoy the 240 mile tank range some speak of rather than the 170 mile one I have now!
