Has anyone tried these?
I have an R100gs and have some progressive/stiffer springs I would like to put in. I am used to the telelever of my old 1200 and manage to bottom out the front forks on the r100gs with heavy breaking which I don't like much!
Can I replace the springs without removing the forks?
What tool is required (other than a punch and hammer!) to remove the round nut at the top of the forks that lies below the plastic dust cover?
Thanks
Rob

Undo the handlebar clamp bolts and move them out of the way
You need a 32 or maybe 33mm socket to get the big nut undun.
Use a twisted old wire coathanger to extract the old springs.
Pop in the new uns
Screw back in the 33 mm stoppers
undo the filler allan key and fill with 7.5 grade oil
on PD there is a different amount into each leg
Job should take 30 mins or 1 hour for me

I'm using Wilbers springs in my R100GSPD. The main difference is the removal of the harshness over potholes etc. This is what you'd expect with progressive springs so no great surprises. Not a dramatic transformation but one of the small improvements that is easily done. I used 10w oil.

Using too stiff springs will reduce travel and stop the suspension doing what it is designed to do.

Installation is as above. Use of punch and hammer is not recommended  :D

I think BegesRus has loosened the lid on the fork oil can of worms - watch this space. :D :D

Slotted nut

Thanks for the helpful comments.
I have a slotted nut at the top of my forks. Is there a special tool I need to remove this and if so what is it called? C-spanner? Where could I get one? I am sorry if this sounds a bit thick!
How much oil do I need to put into each side? Any ideas? Thanks.
