MRA - I've seen the light

After messing around with NACA ducts, lamelar flow wingy things, and loads of other screen mods I've seen the light and bought an MRA Vario screen for my 1100.

It arrived this morning - and I fitted it in 10 mins flat - my ears were still ringing from my 400 mile round trip yesterday (with ear plugs).

It's very nearly spot on - no buffetting and greatly reduced noise. With ear plugs it'll be spot on.

At £116 delivered from P&P Seats it ain't cheap but, IMHO, worth the money.

I've just got to resist the temptation of attacking it with the dremmel.

If anyone fancies a NACA'd tall GIVI or a cut down std 1100 screen I've got one of each!

Does the MRA make any difference to the force on your shoulders at motorway speeds? My Tobinated standard screen is fine for head protection and has eliminated buffeting but at European motorway cruising speeds (around 90mph....ish) I find that after a couple of hours it gets a bit tiring hanging on against the wind blast on my shoulders. I need a wider zone of protection, really.

It is substantially wider than the std or givi screen so it should provide more shoulder protection. To be honest, it's not a problem I was experiencing - but I'll try and assess the changes if I can.

I'm off down to Spain at the end of the month so it should get a good test then.

MRA tobinated

Just fitted an MRA with tobinators from my standard screen. A trip up the M40 and three goes at adjusting it and now I reckon its about perfect: no buffeting, reasonable windnoise - 115 on the way back - the best combo ever. Could even manage 60/65 with my helmet visor up!

Sproggy as to the wind on the schoulders it makes a big difference. Its wider then the standard screen and there is relatively still and quiet area behind now including on the chest /shoulder area. I'm 6'2''.

Nige, thanks for the recommendation but I'm going to try an Adventure screen first (also wider than the standard one) as it['s more robust and will cope better with daily use and abuse, I think.

I'll bear the MRA in mind as a next choice if I don't get on with the Adventure one.

Well, I’ve been using an MRA screen for well over a year now and although it works a lot better than the standard screen, it looks bloody terrible IMHO. I’ve also found the rattle from the screen very annoying – in fact if I’m not doing any distance I just fit the lower part of the screen which seems to offer just enough wind protection for shortish trips.

Can’t someone make a screen that works well, looks good and doesn’t rattle

Yes, someone has. Its fitted as standard to my Audi. Totally silent, no rattles, and its even got a mirror stuck to it.

Bikes ? draughty ? who would credit it. Its the only thing I didnt think about when I decided to take up motorcycling .

How much do you want for it, would it be an easy job to make it fit the GS? Does the mirror vibrate at speed?
