Hi all, I know screens have probably been done to death, however i can't find what i'm looking for via search. Basically standard lc screen wasn't working for me (I am 6' with a longish torso id say) purchased and fitted a MRA vario screen as they seem to get rave reviews, however it has just the same problem for me (no matter what position the spoiler is in) in that a I get a 'buzzy' airflow on the top of my helmet (Shoei GT-Air). If i duck down a couple of inches its perfect cam.

Looking to know if any others found the mra not working for them and what they found did work? I also don't want to put on some massive ridiculous barn door of a screen on, which from experience bigger is not always better anyway. I also don't want to spend £500 on screens to find which one works :)

I'm 5'8" and the vario screen is perfect for me. Maybe you would be better off with the GSA screen with a spoiler on the top

You need this set up then, I am nearly 6'3" and run GSA sized Givi screen with MRA X-green Tour deflector clamped to the top edge of the screen. Adjustable arms set all the way down till they nearly touch the screen and deflector set one position forward from being inline with the screen. So a slight incline as it were. Hope this does make sense.

Adventure Bike Shop in Suffolk is the place to buy from. Either in person or online as they do include clamping kit that would normally cost you an additional £20 or there about.

Hope this helps.

I had a MRA screen previous on my NC750X although it was an improvement it just didn't do it for me. On my GSA I went with the Puig screen, It's taller in the low setting than the standard GSA screen is at full height. I also often ride at 70mph with the Puig screen on high and have my visor up and have no draft at all. I'm 6'1" with a fairly long body too, and it does the job for me.

Thanks EVskij, im a little confused though is the givi adventure screen the same as the bmw adventure screen? if so why use it and not just the standard adv screen that would have come on your bike?

Thanks Stevemoid, is that the puig touring screen you have?

Givi screen is smoked colour rather than clear and is less than half price of BMW dark tinted one which is very nice to look at but in my opinion is to dark. MRA deflector is of very similar colour and does work together very well.

Hope this does explain your confusion.

Great,

Ps: unlike "barn door" Puig screen my set up still allowed me to drop the screen if I am riding in slow traffic or through town in a hot weather. This in turn does bring some very welcome breeze into the cockpit. Once on the open road and doing 70mph I just raise it back up, and have no need for the strengthening brackets that take away flexibility of being able to adjust the screen on a fly.

Obviously the choice is yours what you are going to go for, but personally if I wanted to be in a "bubble" of air, I'd drive a car.

If I raise my set up to all the way to the top and open my top vent on the helmet I hardly get any airflow. A bit of turbulence but that is it. So I ride with custom made earplugs and screen just dropped from the highest position by about 1/2"-3/4" down, this allows me a good ventilation into the top vents on the lid and good visibility of the road ahead, as I am looking over the screen not through it.

Right now in the quite cold and often wet commute to work, which includes about 30 motorway miles I'm kind of hoping for a bubble of air. However when, or if summer comes along and I am pottering around country lanes I suspect it would be nice to have a breeze around you.

Its mostly smoothing the airflow i'm concerned with. My last bike was a naked so no stranger to the wind :)

I'm the same size as you and it diidn't work for me either. I went for a GIVI 5108DT Windshield and fitting kit D5108KIT for BMW R 1200 GSA, which seems much better. I keep meaning to put the MRA screen on here, but I suppose I've just scuppered the sale now!

Edit: just put it in the for sale section as per 'MRA BMW R1200GS (liquid cooled) 2013> & Adventure 2014> onwards X-creen Sport Adjustable Motorcycle Touring Screen
Item Number COL60034"

It's only taking up cupboard space as it is.

Im sure you will have no problem selling it , alot of people swear by the MRA.

I'm also 6' tall, wear a GT Air and have an MRA Vario. It's perfect for me. I hope you get on ok with the Givi.

+1 for Ev's recommendation for the ABS as well as for the MRA extension. I was there on Saturday, when I bumped into Ev, and he had his MRA fitted to his bike already. I told him I was looking for a solution (I have a 2016 gsa) to the buffeting. I am 6ft tall. I didn't want to replace the entire screen as I like the shape of the BMW original as a bit of wind gets around the sides, which will be beneficial in the summer trip to the Alps. The ABS had a demo of the MRA extension, fitted it to my screen, and I blasted up and down the bypass. I also appreciated Ev's opinion on what a good setting was... top bloke, imo.

So I paid my £90, including the free £20 clamps.... and 200 miles later, very pleased:D thnx to the ABS for great service and Ev for good opinions..... being able to lower and raise the screen easily on the move, is vital for me :beerjug:
