Yes Castellane is a great place to overnight, stayed there in July at the "Ma Petite Auberge", also a nice hotel over looking the square.
Stayed in the "Hotel des Etranger" in Sospel, garaged the bike in their cellar, also has a pool.
Looking forward to you're trip on the RDGA.....
I stayed in Ma Petite Auberge last night as du Levant was full . The pitfalls of not booking ahead .
Ate in MPA last night and nice meal but the main man is a cock. He was moaning at 1015 that I needed to check out so I showed him my booking that said check out was 1100 and he shut up .
I've also stated in Du Roc and the Nouvel Hotel Du Commerce . The latter probably has best rooms but Du Levant has the view !!
I still need to dine at the Auberge Du Teilon which is 3 miles south and one of the best restaurants in France but I'll wait till I bring girlfriend for that.
Looking forward to RDGA as never ridden it northbound .

Just finished my week riding mainly the Spanish Pyrenees and I'd say that's the best riding I've ever done, hardly seen another soul in 1500 miles, only the French side got busier and the weather was magnificent.
Totally agree !!
I've blatted around the best roads in Asturias which nobody rides, then the Picos, the entire N260 plus the Route Napoleon. So far 2300 miles and 1 hour of rain !!!

It is majestic but I thought they were all ace, the yellow roads on the Michelin map were fantastic.

Nice potter down the Route Napoleon then down to Nice , avoiding Monaco and having lunch/swim on the beach at Menton before heading into the mountains to start the Route Des Grandes Alpes northbound .

Like the panoramic view...
Col D'Izoard in that pano view is still my favourite Col for riding enjoyment!!
Going to have to go back next year in the car (if it ever gets delivered)

Yea, I like the "Casse Deserte" , very alien look about it....
You have the weather on your side ,some great images . Evokes many a good memory, Castellane and the area are very special places,we too love it there.

Telegraphie, de L'Iseran, Cormet de Roselend, Des Saises and finally Aravis.
Broke off the RDGA at that point to head to Annecy for the night as I've done Col de Colombiere and further north many times including just last month .
Actually had 10 minutes of rain today . Bloody cheek ! Been blue skies since Sunday 18th !!

My final night away . Becoming a tradition to spend it in the pretty port of Cancale , about 12 miles from St Malo. Staying in fav little hotel which has brilliant sea food restaurant below.
I've done 3296 miles since I left home on 17th.
Blatted down to Western Asturias to stay with a mate and ride some virtually unknown roads , then through the Picos to ride along the entire 460kms of the N260 along the Pyrenees. Then linked up to ride down the best bit of the Route Napoleon to have a couple of nights in Castellane. An easy day riding round the Gorge Du Verdon then along the coast to ride up through the Alps following about 90% of the Routes Des Grandes Alpes before breaking off the top bit to head to Annecy then Loire Valley and 'home'.
In 14 days I had one hour of rain on day 2 crossing into Spain, then 10 minutes of rain near Bourg St Maurice on day 11 ish. Apart from that it's been pretty much blue skies and dry roads.
Fantastic trip . Must go back and explore Asturias/Picos some more.
Probably done with RDGA on 2 wheels for a few years.
The MT10 has been fantastic. Fuel range a pain at 120 ish to reserve and a screw came loose on the side stand 'big foot extender'.
But it's been a revelation.
Comfort was far better than I expected , with one 720 mile day done with ease . Sat at 92 mph (86 on GPS) with cruise control on autoroute was easy.
Brilliant on smooth roads, not always so great on bumpy stuff such as part of the Gorge Du V .

I have thoroughly enjoyed this thread so far as the MT does look like a hell of a bike for the money !
Sounds like the the suspension issues ( bumpy roads etc) could be fixed with some decent after market suspension even adding in the cost of a set of Ohlins the bike looks bloody cheap for what it is

It's a bargain at £10k in UK.
It definitely could benefit from better suspension but with the extras fitted it can do most things very well. It certainly makes bikes like the KTM 1290GT look expensive and I can see why it's won most of the mag tests against bikes such as the KTM and S1000R.
