Muc-Off

I know I've asked the question in the "Bargain Forum", but as it's a sort of technical question I'll ask here as well.

Is this Muc-Off stuff any good?
If so, I presume it's sprayed on and then washed off. Does it have to be hosed off, or will lots of thrown buckets of water be OK?
Depending on replies, depends on whether or not M&P get my dosh.

It's OK, I use it on my bike as a pre wash before I hit it with a sponge and soapy water, but If I'm raely lazy, gets spreyed on and hosed down.

Smells dreamy and doesn't seem to contaminate the pads too bad - unlike Gunk which I've used for years.

I use it as well, seems to get the road crud off nicely. I dilute it about 75% Mucoff 25% water. I also only apply to a wet bike.

I am not being funny, but that bike is like new, did you just buy it or do you not use it. My 20k Adventure would never look like that if I had Autoglym have the bike for 2 weeks.

Will need to try this muc of stuff, close to miracles it seems!!

It's an 1100, I bought it new from Southport Superbikes - July '98.

After years of buying every bike the press told me was fastest it quickly became clear I'd found a bike I liked and which suited me. I decided to keep it long term. I was therefore going to keep it in good condition.

I don't take it out for the first 3mths of the year to avoid salt. I decided the time spent cleaning, the damage caused by salt/corrosion set against the low mileage I'd do meant it really wasn't worth it.

I don't clean it often when it's on the road, but when I do I clean it I clean it well. I give it a really good clean over christmas. Scotchbright does a great job of keeping the stainless exhaust nice.

As for use, it's been abroad at least once every year since I've had it. From Norway down to Burgundy to Skye with plenty of weekend trips to North Wales.

It's now done over 56 000 miles and hasn't yet come close to letting me down.

Actually Nick I'm told if you use it your battery goes flat and your final drive starts leaking oil. Wouldn't want that to happen now would we?

Think there's more chance of you and I being diagnosed with Anorexia Nervosa than you cleaning your bike restoring any semblance of reliability to it

What about on the wheels? I've been told so many horror stories about the lacquer or lack-off it on the 1150's wheels that I am a bit anal about using anything on them that might invoke the corrosion god....

Yeah - the 1150 wheels are hard-anodised and rapidly turn irretrievably milky if you leave Muc-Off on them too long. I've personally stopped using it in favour of the Hein Gerike stuff which smells horrible but doesn't seem to discolour aluminium quite so quickly.

Whatever you use, I would suggest 1) Apply to a wet bike 2) Do it in small sections 3) Pressure-wash quite soon after application on any ally areas.

To polish my milky wheels, I've just bought some hard-anodised cleaning paste from a cook shop. Will let you know how it performs.
