Hi, I'm new around here and am waiting to pick up my new'ish '09 Adventure later this week.

So far, I'm bidding for a Vario top box on eBay, I've ordered a mudslinger and front mudguard extender, and after reading a few posts, I'm going to order a spare fuel pump controller.

Now to get back on thread, if I fit the mudslinger would anyone recommend fitting a hugger too ( belt and braces ) if possible? Or should I fit a hugger instead? Just trying to keep the shocker and battery clean and dry.

As always, any advice will be gratefully accepted.

Cheers, Alex

Hugger or Mudsling, or both?

Hi Alex

Welcome to the forum.

In my personal experience, having used two different huggers and the Mudsling on 3 different 1200 GSs, the Mudsling does a better job of keeping the rear end of the bike clean, especially the rear shock.

There is also the risk that using the Hugger and Mudsling together could result in one fouling the other, especially when the rear suspension is fully compressed.

No doubt there will be many others here who be along shortly with their own experiences and opinions, then you will have a choice of views to pick from.

Cheers, Peter

Thanks Peter,

For both the welcome and the advice, I guess that if the two worked well together they'd probably sell them as a kit.

My bike came with a Hugger and then I bought a Mudsling (Well, a copy) and due to sheer laziness had them both fitted together and they did not interefere, but other brands may do so (Skidmarx hugger with Mair Splashgaurd)

I doubt having both will drastically reduce the amount of crap thrown around, I also do not think one is vastly superior to the other.

The hugger may stop the amount of shite hitting the undertray, and I think the mudsling being a bit closer to the shock area maybe works a shade better in that area.

For me I prefered the less cluttered look of the Mudsling, I think you pretty much pay your money and take your choice.

My 2005 GS came with a hugger but I've changed it back to the original splashguard and a mudsling. Both give similar results in my experience so choose the one you like best. I only changed it because I feel the bike suits it's original setup better than a hugger. I like it anyway! So the hugger is going to be for sale very shortly.

I'll post it on here to give the collective tossers 1st chance before it goes on fleebay.:thumb

mm vario top box,ebay,1200adv,have you the right mounts for the vario on you adv?asstandard an adv wont take a vario box,if you know all this already then my apologies.

The bike has Vario panniers and the eBay box has a fixing bracket with it, if it doesn't work out I'll let you all know, for future reference.

Sounds as though I've made the right choice by ordering the mudslinger though.

I tried a pyramid hugger and was not happy - an odd noise when resonated at some revs + poor build quality; after the supports bent and it started rubbing on the tyre I got rid of it. I now have a BestRest Spray Stopper (like a mud sling) and it's superb.
