Muffs - Outdoor Safety

I've been pondering this for some time and would like the collective's thoughts on whether I should be removing my handlebar muffs when I park up as they're very easy to remove.

I did wonder about putting them in the panniers but I'm now unsure about that too.

Does anyone have any ideas on keeping my muffs safe from those who covet my muff?
 
Just remove one.

That way you'll have made a correct decision either way. Plus tracking-down a one-armed motorcycle-riding thief might be easier.
 
What worries the most is that bikes with panniers left on but no muffs may lead muff-thieves to think that there are a pair in the panniers.

Can someone produce some stickers like you see on vans....."No Muffs left in these panniers"?

Not necessarily.

One bike, two muffs, left and right.

The one-armed, right armed, thief will steal the right muff.

The one-armed, left armed, thief will steal the left muff.

Two thefts but only one victim.

Though we are all victims of crime. I have leaflet from my local community police station (open 12:00 - 12:30 but not on Bank holidays or Fridays) that tells me so.

Maybe one muff in each pannier - then when your panniers get nicked you will have a decent insurance claim. oh no, I forgot - we dont know if insurance covers panniers....

I'm still no clearer on what I should be doing with keeping my muffs safe from harm. All this worry is making me wonder about making a bike that has a secure metal cage thing over it with locks and stuff.

The 'pannier' thread has started a run of paranoia; personally I worry that my panniers will suffer from the cold and wet and won't get a good night's rest so I like to keep them nice, warm and snug.

Just smear the outside of the muffs with dung (you can choose which animal for the source) then not only will the scrotes not remove them, but they probably won't touch the rest of your bike either - win - win situation :augie

£20 Oxford/Motrax muffs, the dogs.........., secured by the mirror and bar ends, who would want to go to all that trouble to nick'em.

Oh I've noticed much lower forms of post than this, wheel nicking, pannier safety,
"what do I do if the computer tells me the tyre pressure is low?"
