Up until now I have been a customer of BMW Insurance for my GS. Whilst they do a multi bike policy, the silly tw*ts won't let me add a non-BMW to the policy. Instead, they would rather I cancelled the policy, took the pro-rata refund and spent my hard-earned elsewhere. Muppets.

So, I am after a multi-bike policy that:
- covers my GS fully comp
- covers the DR-Z400E I'm about to buy 3rd party F&T. (Or comp. if necessary)
- ride other bikes 3rd party not owned by me.
- lets me add Morocco to the policy as an option (yes I know BM don't cover this).

So far I have found that:
* ebike is cheap, but doesn't appear to do Morocco. You can't call them to ask either; email only. Sucks.
* Carole Nash - rips off. More than 2.5 x ebike price !

Mods - Not sure of the right place for this q. Should we have an "insurance" category?

Whoa there big boy!

Matey......take advice from one to whom this EXACT thing happened last year!

DO NOT take the money and run ! When you come to re-insure with another provider, you will have lost this year's no-claims altogether because YOU cancelled the policy!

Therefore, even after 11 months (yes 11!) I lost a full year's NCD and the feckers aare not obliged to tell you this!

Caveat Emptor!

Good point. I'll let the GS policy lapse in Nov, then add to the policy I need to take out imminently on the DR-Z.

i have 3 bikes on with bennets, quite reasonable price.[mind you i am an old arse].

Been with Carol Nash for years. They insure GSA + sports bike (1100cc) + old brit classic. Won't take their first price on anything and argue like hell! In the region of £280 the lot, but as above a bit of an old fart (50ish) with advanced stuff. Used their breakdown thing in France once - brilliant. Only fly in the ointment was an insistance that I pay £40 for changing the number plate on the GSA, the b*ggers! Haggle and win!

I can agree with Fluffy Bridges with carole nash u have to haggle thats the way it works in Irland anyway JJH

Do a Moneysupermarket.com bike insurance comparison which will give you a load of cheap quotes, then use the cheapest that will do a multi policy. Just takes a couple of phone calls. Carol Nash will do them as will Footman James. They are all cutting each others throats so shop around! ;);)

The BuMW Motorrad policy, underwritten by NIG, is specific to the BUMW brand and priced accordingly. You can have as many (I think) BuMW motorcycles as you like off it and it's reasonably cheap. I guess you found it so?

Unfortunately, you have bought a non-BuMW bike so it ain't going to work. Honda's policy (also underwritten by NIG and broked by Devitt) works the same way, only accepting Honda motorbikes.

There are lots of competitive multi-bike policies and insurers out there, with or without Morocco lobbed in. Work your way thro' the adverts in MCN or some othe bike rage.

Vis-a-vis the loss of a year's NCB credit if someone short closes the policy. It is based on a full annual - insured - loss record. It follows that if you do only insure for say five, six or even 11 months, it ain't a year. In real world terms, would anyone pay an employee an annual 12 month bonus for five months work?

Yep - Carole Nash or Bennets, both do decent multi-bike policies. Fell foul of the BMW insurance as well - nob 'eds!!

insure

hi
bennets do a multi bike .
lexham is another.used both these for years .every year i ring around for the best deals and they match them all .

I had a multi-bike policy with Bennets until recently, and with Carol Nash before that, but they wanted silly money to renew.
So I talked to them, as you do, and it turns out it would have been much cheaper, with Bennets, to insure the two bikes on two separate policies than have them on the same policy!!!!!!!!!!!
But they never told me that until I asked.

Ended up getting BMW policy for my GSA for less than half the price Bennets or Carole Nash wanted, including full Euro and Legal Aid cover.

Pays to shop about.

I did that..........turns out that you can't use your NCB twice though

That's true - but each policy earns its own discount, so eventually max discount should be achieved on each one.

With the BM policy I took out, there was an time overlap between it and my old policy expiring, so I couldn't use my discount until my old policy expired.
(It was only a couple of weeks, but Bennets would charge me a £40 admin fee to cancel).
When the old policy expired the discount was applied to my new BM policy, and they refunded to me the difference, which I thought was excellent.
But the value of 4 years NCD was only £30 odd.
That's better in my pocket, but it's not an enormous amount!

This is my 1st year back to biking and I've got the bike bug bad. Started last year with RD350. Nov I got my new GSA. This week I will be getting a new Buell XB12SS. I have a problem now! Cheap insurance has gone out the window. I'm currently with "AQuote" (T: 0800 089 2892) and insured with Norwich Union. Norwich Union gave me 3yrs no claims introductory discount when I had my RD350 because I had NC discount on my car. Only they seem to offer this. Anyway, the Buell XB12SS 1200cc is dearer to insure than the GSA 1200cc but they will be insuring my RD350 free of charge next year because of the engine size. Upon my 2nd year renewal with AQuote, they give me a 20% discount for renewing + another years NC discount from Norwich Union.

Cutting a long story short, Norwich Uniton do multi policys and are much better priced than Carole Nash or Bennets for me at least - but my insurance has shot up cause of my growing collection of new bikes!

I use ebike insurance. I have a Blackbird and when I bought my GSA they charged me £10 for the extra bike. My renewal has just come through at £203 for both bikes.

You get free recovery too, which I've used and is good.

If i remember correctly e-bike does not cover you to ride any other bike apart from the ones you have listed on your policy. So you have no cover what so ever on any bike you borrow to ride.

Well I am sure that each persons situation will vary considerably. I am sure that living in London, a few speeding points and an at fault accident in a car (reversed into a post) all don't help!

But for me, I found these multi-bike policies a right load of tosh.

It was actually cheaper to get separate policies, with the added bonus of earning NCB on the second bike which will come in handy as time goes on.

So thanks to Fredb51 for recommending Ramasis who came up trumps for the second bike.

As for Carole Nash - well their pricing thingy is way off the mark, wanting almost 4x what everyone else wanted ! :rob. Frikkin minefield this insurance lark.

Insurance differs a lot, but I have a multi bike policy, a R1100GS and a Harley FXR 1340 and I got it for £116 a year fully comp, if I had wanted to add my sons old GPZ900R they would have charged me an extra £30 thats with Devit.

Oh and living in London
