Right I’ve had to post this here because I’m still blocked from accessing or posting in Anything Goes and probably other parts of this forum too.
Come on Paul, surely I’ve served my probation and proven I’m a good lad and can behave. Please allow me back in 👍
Anyway, please if this post gets moved by any of the Mods, please don’t move it to a part of the forum I can’t access otherwise I’ll never find out the answer. 😂😂

Right we know we can get multi bike insurance policies where your NCB discount will be attached to whichever bike you’re riding at the relevant time but I’ve been trying to get the same type of policy for a car/van currently without any success.

So I own two vehicles, a VW Transporter and a Ford Ranger and all I want is to have them on the same policy with a shared NCB and for the policy to operate like a multibike policy, is this even possible, my current insurance company Adelaide says NO but if it can be done for a bike then why not a four wheeled vehicle?

Any thought anyone?

Are they both commercial vehicles, or is one a non-commercial?

Both classed as commercial vehicles but both used for private none commercial use only. 👍

That might be your issue as they are both classed as commercial vehicles - some insurers may see it as a cheaper way to try and insure business vehicles. There must be another option for Commercial vehicles.

I only need social cover, not even social including commuting never mind business cover.
I’m a bum, I don’t work. 👍

I’ve just got a quote for the two vans and you can only apply the NCD to one vehicle, what’s the bloody point of that?

speak to a proper broker not these online muppets. They will try to find an underwriter to meet your criteria.

I have already suggested https://www.nfumutual.co.uk/agent-offices/ They operate bricks & mortar offices and deal mostly with commercial insurance but also arrange personal cover.

Just bear in mind, you could be chasing a unicorn.

Thanks, if I have to whittle down to one van, the Transporter can go and I’ll keep the Ranger as it’s newer. I’ll give NFU a call in the morning. 👍

Indeed
My 2 commercials and 1 passenger car were insured by NFU mutual (albeit they all had full NCD) on one policy via the business (private car paid from personal bank account though)

Then NFU got too expensive and I went to a local commercial broker and now insure them all on one policy with AIUA

Why do you want them on one policy. I assume that you have two NCD just insure them individually.
I've given up on multi policies after an non fault accident increased the premium across all vans and became cheaper to insure them individually.
Individually I found you also benefit if one does much lower mileage than the other.

I wanted them on one policy for the exact reason some people have a multi bike policy, it’s cheaper and easier to manage.

it’s cheaper

not universally true, and unless you have a garage of old snotters, I suggest it is not often true

and easier to manage.

I think the brokers that offer this service prey on the lazy and/or stupid to add value to their bottom line. Just look at the marketing budget Admiral directs at combining bike, car and home insurance. They would not do this if the margins were cut throat. They do it as consumers are suckers for a one stop shop, just like Tesco does with groceries.

The only way to get the best premiums is to be diligent and systematic. Get your timing right as it makes a difference and understand what you are buying before you commit as cheapest is often not best value.

When I had 2 bikes I got the premiums down to around £100 each on separate polices. A multibike policy was £500.

You’re very lucky then, when I had two bikes it was definitely beneficial to me to have them on one policy with a shared NCD. I’m down to one bike now and have no intentions of getting a second bike as I’m struggling to find the time to ride the one I have. 👍
I never combine my home insurance with the same company who provides my car or bike insurance, never have and never will but it doesn’t stop them asking me every year when it’s due for renewal.
