Multi V4 Rally

Hello Sticky. It cost me an additional premium for the year of about £100 over a ‘22 GSA. BUT I had to have a tracker fitted. I’m possibly at an age where it’s starting to go against me though.

Thanks Vincent. Was interested as I remember there seemed to be some big increases in GS premiums and it was put down initially to the bikes value being over £20k. Perhaps the insurance industry wasn't ready for bikes costing what they do! Sat on the Rally at GT in Plymouth today. Its a tall bugger!. Probably go with the V4s. Just waiting for my GS to be written off after being sideswiped in Spain.

New Bike Day arrived and my Multistrada Rally was delivered this afternoon. No accessories available yet, but I guess Ducati have issued quite a few of their £1,500 accessory vouchers recently.

I thought insurance would be expensive, but it was okay as I added the Ducati to the H-D Insurance policy covering my Road King. The policy renews next week and it's £250 for the year so not too bad.

Nice looking machine! I really wish other manufacturers would try the shaft drive+hosack type suspension on the front.....it was one of the main reasons I selected the GS after my K1300R and works better, IMO, in real world situations. I hated the feel of 'front dive' due to braking yet the suspension worked as it should.
Yes, I know they try to eliminate this effect on the newer competitor models, but that comes at the expense of actually changing the suspension characteristics whilst braking.
I am too new to the GS fold to be changing bikes just yet, even with all these positive reviews I have read....let's give it 5 years or so to see what happens......just enough time to buy a new petrol bike before they are banned!! :D

Any issues getting the £1500 voucher from your dealer ?……

No, my dealer was okay with it but like most manufacturer's offers the dealer makes a contribution. They told me it was £500 which I can well believe.

I've read elsewhere (so it may be pub talk) that Ducati advised dealers... "we will not advertise this offer for the MTS V4 Rally however if you have a customer who wants to take advantage of the deal on the V4 Rally, we will allow you to apply the offer."

Picked up my Rally on Friday but my dealer isn't happy about giving me the voucher.....why have these offers if it's going to cause so much resentment between the dealer and customer.

Maybe customer services at Ducati UK can help - 01327 858900

I had the exact same issue with the Preston dealer, made me feel like I was out of order asking, which only made me persevere more in ensuring I received the voucher.
I was actually told it was not available multiple times on the Rally, it was only when I said then why are your other DMC dealers giving it to clients up and down the country.
As you say I think it has spoiled or has instigated ill feeling in what should be an ongoing positive relationship building exercise.

On another note = picked mine up and went straight out for a ride, the steering felt strange and almost felt like it was falling into corners, upon checking the tyre pressures on newly PDI'd bike I found the front tyre left the dealers with over 50 PSI and the rear was not far behind.

Would never buy a bike from Ducati Manchester, they delivered a brand new bike that had damage, looked like it had fallen over in the van, they said it will be sorted on the first service, it was wheeled back into the van and sent back to Dmc, they returned it and the rear calliper bleed nipple had not been tightened up and it leaked fluid out onto the tyre and I nearly binned it. tarnished the new bike feeling and so I sold it with less than 200 miles on the clock.

I rode up to the ABR Festival on my V4S and test rode the Rally while I was there (on road only). Not a huge difference between them really. The phone pocket is a bit better and my iPhone Max Pro fitted in, but the actual riding experience was pretty similar, the main difference I notices was it tended to dive a bit ore on the brakes, you might be able to tune that out slightly but I never got the chance to try. One thing I was shocked about was the road ride, which was at a quick but legal speed, showed 52 mpg and it was showing a range of 350 miles.

You allergic to any red then ? :)

Yes! Sheffield Wednesday fan so anything red is anathema! 🙂👍🏻

Am test riding the Rally on Saturday. It’s growing on me.

Although am also thinking of keeping my GS1250 and getting something cheap and fast for short fun rides.

Had the Rally for two hours today. A lovely machine. Sharper than a GS in every way with better handling, significantly faster, sublime quickshifter, excellent brakes and a great sounding engine too. I thought the radar and blind spot features were excellent and it is a really comfortable seating position. All in all, very impressive.

Two negatives, one minor and two deal breakers. First, my GS has a touring screen and offers much better wind protection and is quieter but that is not a big deal really. What is though is the heat from the engine. It is uncomfortably warm and borderline hot. It was 19 degrees for my test ride and it was not nice then. I think this would be a real problem for me when touring in warmer climes. Lastly, the firmer rider of the Rally would be a little more uncomfortable for both long journeys and for a pillion I think, again, not the end of the world but worth consideration.

So decision made, am not buying one. And riding the GS home gave me a good chance to compare them. Both great bikes, one is significantly more sporty and consequently a compromise on comfort, the other is more friendly and more suitable for long tours. Given that the latter is what I want my GS for, I will stick with it. No idea what I could replace it with now though. The 1300 and the Multistrada are not a good fit for me.

Might get one of these next.

When i had a 1098s i took the end cans off to trade it in and was in shock with how different it felt, it felt strangled, ducati dont seem to do well on a standard exhaust (if it was) a termi system on it could help massively on the heat issues, not cheap though.

Had mine for 4 weeks now and just had the first service. Bought a Rally and Radar and had the heated grips and TPMS fitted before delivery, and then fitted the Akra can, panniers and top box, electric fuel cap, heated seats and spots off my V4S straight onto it. Suspension is definitely slightly more compliant than the V4S and I seem to run it "one notch up" from what I used to. For spirited riding it could really do with the electronic anti-dive (as per KTM 1290 SAS) or tele-lever as there is a bit of dive on the front. Also, I am now seeing 50+mpg quite regularly which is novelty if you have ever owned one of these :). Still easy to get into low 40s, but in general I can now touch the magic 300 miles per tank.
