I'd buy the 1190R tomorrow, and I've test ridden the 1190 Adventure and loved it, especially the gearbox/clutch and the engine of course but my wife finds the pillion position unacceptable and loved the comfort of the mts and Skyhook was a big contributor to that comfort.

I doubt that one is faster than the other, they are both mindblowingly quick and there are you tubes of both doing mental speeds.

I cannot comment on the relative speeds because I had different riding conditions during my comparative rides, but both would leave a GS for dust if that's what you seek.

For any musicians on here, a guitar tuning app is needed to tension the belts.
Its worrying that the expert says, at 4.14, that " first you line up the dots, but with the testa engines, the dots don't really make much sense, but that's just too bad!"
You could really FCK one of these engines easily if you don't know what you are doing. This guy does know what he's doing :

Have you ridden the MS ?

If youre right I need a go on the KTM as I believe IMHO that the MS is the best handling (road ) bike around (especially with the Ohlins SCU ) and its pretty good on dirt tracks .

Yes,I had a demo from P & H in Crawley when they first came out.

Did about 100 miles on it.

I liked the motor but not much else.

Found the riding position cramped with my heel pushed out by the exhaust and the seat locked you in an unnatural position that soon became painful !

Handling was good but I think the KTM is a tad better,and is so much more comfortable,with a a nicer seat position and more room to move around-for me at least.

The 1190 motor is also much smoother at low revs yet quicker,from memory anyway,as I've not ridden the MS for over a year.

And if you fancy a race, 1190 v MTS, I know which my money is on. Over anything more than a short distance, no contest - MTS every time. I haven't yet ridden the 1190R version but I find it interesting that the suggestion so far is that the R is a better road bike than the standard 1190, because the aggression has been toned down. Sounds to me like the R may be the bike the 1190 was supposed to be.

Of course, as a convert from GS to MTS, I may be just be biassed...

Not that a race would prove anything but I think the same rider would be quicker on the 1190,especially if he was taller than 5'10",as he would have more room to move around on the KTM and take advantage of it's superior speed and handling.

I rode the MS last year. Nice enough bike, except the seat kinda locked me into one position and I felt I couldn't move about at all. The engine was quick enough, but too lumpy for those times when I'm not in a go fast mood. I can ride my 1190 down to 35mph in top gear with no trouble, the MS wasn't liking that at all..

That's exactly what I thought-cramped riding position that locks you in,lumpy engine that is rubbish at town speeds.

Come on Arsey, wake up..... this is a 2013 Multistrada thread: seat has been re designed to give greater rider movement, Twin spark ignition and some weird air bleed device (see the Kevin Ash article). I can tell you that it fixes any of your justifiable 2012 criticisms. Plus you get SKYHOOK.. It is a beauty and I am a BIG fan of the 1190 btw
Go ride a 2013. People say that the best motorcycle in the world has just got better!

Ducati have a bad reliability hiistory, that's for sure, but I read an article once which blamed it all on people cutting corners, dealers included, dabbling with the complexities without using the correct tools. The above video is probably a prime example: is there no Ducati tool that locks the various camshaft positions to avoud need for belt marking The article, i read emphatically said that dealers were taking shortcuts with tooling. That was 10 yrs ago though and people are hoping that Audi's influence will sort this.

My mate never got to ride the 1190 demo properly because his GS went bang in a big way so he could take the 1190 again and I'll try the P & H MS demo.

We'll be a while though as I'm in Singapore with next stop Sydney !

I really like the look of the Multi, especially the PP? We were in the car today, and a 13 plate one came up behind us, and overtook, and my wife said that she wouldn't mind if I got one of those one day.

My only reservation is the reliability.

I've trawled the forums and reliability does not to feature, any more than the odd moan on here about the GS.

There are a few complaining about clunks with the front forks, which seems sortable by means of a spacer or by upping the preload. Everyone with big feet moan about the centre stand.People moan about the luggage.Everyone seems to love their MTS's. I'm still reading.

The difficulty, is in making a decision after only a short test ride, some bikes you can get on and gel quickly with,others become better the more miles you ride them.
You can read all the reviews you like but its down to the individual,And as for performance fiqures and top speed/bhp,weight etc.I personally don,t get hung up on them,in real world riding it makes very little difference.I had a long run further north recently during which i swapped bikes with a mate who has a ktm smt,a sportier bike than the GSA i have ,there is more 'squirt' from the smt. but all day long there was very little 'real road riding' difference between the two bikes.horses for courses.

Yes, but my local independent Ducati specialist charges less than half that incl vat and genuine Ducati parts. So there are ways of affording a Ducati.
You've seen the drop dead gorgeous Pikes Peak, what about the GT with LED fogs,(all models have LED running lights plus LED dipped beam, crash bars, higher handlebars and matt grey paint, higher screen and the biggest boxes in the world, £16,800 OTR incl every electrical toy that you can think of EXCEPT CRUISE CONTROL:

The Italian designer said that it would have been a piece of cake to add cruise control to the electronics, but he never considered that anyone would want it. Bets it'll be on the 2014 model.

Engine wise, and handling wise the MTS is neck to neck with the KTM1190, but no way can the latter be up for touring with its horrendous pillion position. The NTS suspension is the icing on the cake IMHO

Well this my new bike, traded the GSA in for it, and have just had the 600 mile running in service completed.
Impressions so far are I LIKE IT , very fast and awesome to look at, not as nice to drive slow as the Bimmer , but otherwise suits me a lot more. Definitely wouldn't be as good as a tourer.

Nice Lighty. Is the Termignoni loud? Is your rear shock spring yellow,cos can't see it in your pic ?
Did you get a standard screen with your Pikes Peak screen ? Sorry for all of the questions.
I've been asking my dealer if the GT bar risers can be fitted to the Pikes Peak, but they think that cables are too short, but not confirmed yet.
FYI my dealer servicing costs quoted inc vat are:
600ml/7,500ml/12mnths/24mnths are all £195
36 months £453
15,000ml (inc belt change) £778.8

Exhaust is very quiet, the Termigoni is only a tailpipe, in fact it's way quieter than the GSA, I am supposed to be getting the bigger screen, but the dealer hasn't sent it yet.yes the spring is yellow, I will get some better pics up & a better review if your interested.

Your bike will be mapped for the Termignoni. Failure to remap a bike, with consequent failure to recalibrate for reduction in back pressure, leads to excess unburnt fuel, with consequences:

I'd be very interested to hear your ride report, especially your comments re slow speed riding and unsuitability for touring. My wife, as pillion loved the seating position and comfortable skyhook setting. Of course it depends which setting that you dial in .
