OK, bought an R1150GSA (02)

already has:

-tobinators
-cruise control, mechanical
-bashplate (kildala), need to fit the other parts of this three piece
-stubby

Planning:
-panniers (looking into ardcase, vern's and stahlkoffer)
-got light bar and wiring fitted, which spotlight should I fit?

Do I need:

Fender extenda?
Hugger? if yes which make

Any other things?

Better start saving up this is going to get expensive.

You need the bike properly serviced and set up if it's not already. You don't need anything else - all the other stuff falls into the 'want' category, not the 'need' one.

Just ride the bike for a while and make your own decisions about what (if anything) to add to it. Accessories are a personal decision based on how you use the bike - ask other people for opinions and they're meaningless if they don't use their bike the same way that you do.

Get some decent lights for a start. forget about spots get a pair of HID headlights and SEE where your going. Les Wassel on this site will do you a nice set at a good price.

I thought about a hugger/mudsling, but I quite like a naked rear, as it were. It's pleasing to the eye.

Cut the tye wraps from the wiring loom at the headstock, this eventually breaks the wires, as it flexes too often and fractures.

Don't thank me, Steptoe told us all.

If you don't change the clutch fluid regularly, I'd be inclined to spray the bleed grubscrew with ACF50 so that it doesn't sieze up when you eventually decide to do it. Or take it off, and lube it before replacing it.

Hydraulic clutch pipe, where it joins the slave cylinder. As Steptoe suggested, cut away the rubber sheatthing at the slave end, it has a capillary action with water, and will rust away.

I haven't done this :eek: But, now and then I liberally spray ACF50 i the general area.

Occasionally spray ACF50 onto exposed threads, at least they won't be siezed when at some future date you have to remove them.

Anytime you gain access to a terminal block, spray ACF50 into it, or pack with silicone grease. pay emphasis onto the connector block on the R/H side under the petrol tank, behind the black plastic cover. This is where the connections are for the fuel gauge. Don't ask.
 
As above. The only essential "addition" I think is the HID of the dipped beam. I wouldn't bother with the high beem as the reflector doesn't throw the right pattern and I don't think you gain alot over a Philips Xtreme.

Then enjoy buying all those little bits and pieces that are "essential" and don't give a damm about others opinions.

Glad to see you got the bike in the end....if you want that beer let me know.

For me, protection was top of the list :
hugger, fender xtender, crash bars, mud guard thingy that goes under number plate.

Other stuff was tarting it up ... HID's, spots, found brake pedal was too small so got an extender for that. Got a Nippy light switch for the cancel button to switch on spots (just need to wire it in).

Got a TT sat nav and plan routes using TYRE.

The world, or a Touratech catalogue, is your oyster. Just make sure you get it all posted to your work address so the other half does not find out :thumb
 
HID

The headlamp is the only bit that really lets the 1150 down - HID for dipped beam is the way to go + HID for main beam if you ride much at night.
Buy some ACF50 and keep the engine cases clean 'cause corrosion spoils the look of the bike and will put some buyers off (me) when you come to sell it.

there are many different mods you can do to your GSA. It's all down to personal choice. I dread to think how much I have spent over the years on "stuff" for my bike. None of it has been essential but all of it has been wanted:augie. You'll come to a point where you'll feel that your bike is where you want it....

The only mods I would recommend would be upgrading your lights to HID. There are many places to buy them from and they can be quite expensive. Don't be put off by HID kits on ebay from China:rob I bought mine nearly 2 years ago from Ebay in China and have never had a problem with them. The cost was a fraction of what I could have paid for them. £100 delivered for x2 35w 6000k HID kits. That's 4 ballasts/bulbs to upgrade dipped and main beam plus x2 Micro DE spots:thumb Apiece of cake to fit that took less than 1 hour for the lot..

Buy yourself a can of ACF50 for the winter months and buy the other stuff as you go.....

mmh, if I loose a pound for every pound I add I should be fine..:D

I saw in the service history the bike had is last service with you last October. What engine oil should I use to top it up with. Just to stick to the brand that has gone in during the service.

On that note, what's heavier: the stock exhaust or the cat? Or to put it differently, is it better to fit pipe and Y-piece, or just stubby zorst?
