Probably the most frightening yet inspring story I have heard. I am so glad you are OK. Although the bike stood up to a real battering and possibly saved your life it pales into insignificance the courage you displayed in doing your duty in a job that people are quick to criticize. When you hear of tales like this it reminds us all that you are serving your community to the highest standards.
Lets have more people like this on our roads - you simply can`t "replace" people like this with CCTV.

Echoing some of the comments from other posters in this thread, I don't get the law when it comes to dangerous driving. Mothers and children mown down on a pedestrian crossing by a drunk driver - a fine and a ban. The excuse, the guy was drunk. A thief in a Volvo deliberately trying to reverse over a motorcycle copper - methinks that sounds pretty premeditated and in my book would be attempted murder, not attempted manslaughter. I am so glad things worked out the way they did for you that morning and good on you for getting this MFKer. In a parallel universe I can just hear him saying "Honest Guv, I didn't know he was there". Sitting in court for a day as a potential witness you get to listen to the most crass and laughable excuses that these scum come up with and their solicitors peddle it. I hope the law comes down hard on this guy. In the old days assaults on coppers were dealt with harshly - the same should still apply.
Jason, when asked if you have any special request when presented with your bravery award (
), just say "It needs to be pinned on a 1200GSA".

I saw the bike at Rydales, looks in remarkably good shape, considering. I am not convinced the 1200GSA would bounce so well.
I ride a grey GSA and wear a fluorescent yellow aerostich top round South Wales. The only waves I get are from the police!! Does have the advantage that cars pull aside for me!

Top man, This is the type of thing that needs to get into the press, along with the response. Hopefully the powers that be will understand the lengths some officers will go to in pursuit of there job, and the high regard good officers are held in by the public.
My only hope now is that the offender is put up before a judge who is:
1. Under 70
2. Has papers to prove dementia has not set in.
3. Is in tune with or has any grasp of the world we all live in.
Then if we are all lucky he will get what we all so richly wish for him. Although that I belive is unlikely due mainly to 2 above.

Hi, saw your bike at Rydale Cardiff last week! Lucky you! Glad to hear you were not badly hurt and hope the little t*at gets what's coming to him.
He should be charged with attempted murder. Thats if the CPS can do the paperwork.

Glad to hear you survived relatively unscathed. Undoubtedly hand smacking will be the punishment but top marks to your Force Fleet Administrator for equipping you with the bike. More than up to it than the usual ST1300.
