It's a "feature". The wee switch loom at the bottom of the ignition barrel gets damaged. Your dealer should have one in stock, and it should be a warranty repair if the bike's under two years. May even get it as a goodwill repair if out of warranty, so be very nice to the staff :D

Don't knock it if you read this forum most don't start. (I'll presume this is hyperbole - Dahoum)
:D

.
Give the switch a good spray of WD40, that should help until you can get it looked at.

A good friend of mine, .....................just in case.

We 1200 riders dont need reassurances like that in a technical forum Den - but thanks for the thought :D Dahoum

I hope this reassures owners. :augie

yup sure is ?

I have recollections of this topic being discussed before (admittedly some time ago). Last time I saw this was on a dealer demonstrator of all things.

Hi All,

I am now having this problem after heavy rain in Romania.

Does anyone know if the starter switch can be stripped and sprayed with WD40 in order to resolve this? I think it is the starter switch rather than the ignition switch causing the problem i.e. it is corroded inside.

Hi Mate,

Yes strip it down and spray away. Did exactly that not had a problem since.
