My Africa Twin

Or...............a 600 DS bike.

My Husky is big enough to de serious distance on but light and small enough (140kg) to tackle decent off road stuff. The perfect compromise for me :)

Gotta say though, there's a certain satisfaction to be had from off roading a big bike................

Got my lump hammer and a block of wood.

Bashed the be-Jesus out of the reinforcement bar back into position.

Removed the brake pedal and bashed the be-Jesus out if that. Refitted nice and straight.

So just need to primer and repaint scratches to refresh that.

Washed and Refitted clean saddle bags.

Ready to go again. :D

You are very lucky JB. If I lived where you do then I would do as you have. But different geography means different reasons.

I also like to get out and see the different parts of the country. I wouldn't be content with riding the same lanes.

With these bikes you can ride lanes anywhere. Cumbria, Northumberland, Yorkshire, Lancashire, Cheshire. Distance isn't an obstacle.

... and you get to ride home in comfort, heated hot grips covered in mud with huge smile on your face.

I'm happy with that.

I have a nice warm Van, so distance isn't a problem for me either, after a tough day on the trails............fuck riding home on a bike

.....................

Hell, I listened to a man yesterday giving a talk about riding a 180kg 660 Tenere single, 40,000 miles around the world with a pillion on too - in a year

He's also ridden a XR400 all the way to Mali

You don't need a big bike to travel:D

Ok... here's a story to back that statement up.

This is a picture of me.... I'm on the left :D

I met this chap - Simon Gandolfi in a McDonalds Drive thru one day.

I was with my mates and he was sat in the corner on his own, listening very intently to what we were saying.

We started chatting as he seemed interested in our bikes. That's when the stories unfolded and he was amazing to listen to. He's done seminars and speeches for Bike Magazines and stuff.

Anyways, Simon Gandolfi is the writer and author for 'Old Man on a Bike', amongst other books. He rode around the world on a 125cc motorcycle when he was 77 Years old.

He got up one day, shuffling around the house wondering what to do with himself, pissing off his wife. She said "why don't you get a bike and ride around the world".... so having no motorcycle licence and didn't wan't to pedal at his age, he got a 125cc and fucked off... haha :D

After our chat, and selfie, he told me, "Ride Slow, Ride Far" shook my hand and went.

Yer big shandy drinking softie!

No you don't...but a big bikes sure make the travel quicker and more comfortable.

There was a lad Ian in his 20's that published his storey Ian the XLR detailling his ride to Kazakstan I think on an old XLR250, he's currently in Oz now riding on a KTM and left the XLR in Kaz for later collection.

Using big adv bikes mean you can do some bigish miles, quickly have a day on the trails and ride back in comfort.

Where does 'Warlord' come from ? Your photo is the polar opposite of how I imagined you would look. Just interested.

Literally out of thin air... as it didn't matter to me when I registered.

Always better than Steve123456789

Funny, but please describe the picture in your head and character profile of your 'Warlord'... just interested :D

Did you have a very good imagination? :D

Erm, you look more like an accountant and the image was, well, one of a hairy bearded nutjob. :thumb2

Online User names are a pain in the neck.

So you start off with something like 'Steve'

Then next online user login won't let you have 'Steve' so it suggests 'Steve0109'

Then next online user login won't let you have 'Steve' or 'Steve0109' it has to be 'Steve0109%$#'

This continues until you have no clue anymore of who you are or where you go.

So I pick names that my head can associate with online activities.

Gaming is fun and peaceful for me. So World_Peace

Forums are hostile and full of twats and trolls... So 'Warlord' is ideal.

See the theory.... :D

I do indeed. Way back when ... there were no trolls or nastyness, Paul G was a mere lad blah blah/ :beerjug:
