I have to say the engine on this bad boy is nothing short of nuclear !

I'm tempted but the decision is which one??

The 1190R does look rather well too

If you do mostly proper off road then the R is the best choice. It's the best big engined off road bike you can buy but the 21" front wheel isn't so good on the road. If your mostly road or unfinished roads then the 1190 adv or 1290 SA is probably a better choice. The 1290 is the most sorted and has all the toys but you pay a premium for that. It's also a bit heavier but for long distance riding it's spot on.

Does the 1290 have integrated sat Nav, keyless, quickshifter and led headlights?

Integrated satnav and keyless is of no real concern, to me anyway. The quick shifter and led highlights coild be useful though. There are rumours of a KTM underwritten shifter possibly becoming available (believe it when I see it) and there are aftermarket led headlight options if that is a must have.

The 1290 engine is a stunner for sure. I'm on the hunt for a winter bargain... ;)

Led lights yes if you fit them.
Keyless no thank god, makes it harder to steel.
Integrated sat nav, no but then the dash that you can actually read tells you everything.
Quickshifter, no, big deal, I have a left hand and clutch leaver that I only need for downshifts.

Does the gs have 160 HP, a gearbox that is so good you can barely feel it?
And while we are at it the current year gs doesn't have active suspension or corner stability control, never mind hill hold start or MSR.

Given his recent acquisition, is the comparison being attempted with the XR, not the GS?

Regardless, my new toy should be ready today...

Fair enough, I've no clue about XR light options, I'm staying Austrian.

I'm talking about the GSA. Markis post mentioned the toys, but it doesn't have any. I went to look at a 1290 on Saturday, and wondered why it was so basic. Apart from 160bhp.

Apart from the suspension and all the other electronics stuff I mentioned that the 2015 GSA doesn't have. No it doesn't have any toys.

The GSA has active suspension, and the new 2016 GSA has the cornering ABS and flashing brake light.

It's got a stonking engine, I personally was blown away by the engine and the suspension for me felt much better than the gs/gsa, quickshifter was the only downer, Ktm had done some R&D on a shifter for the 1290 but it killed several engines, damaging the valves but that was 12 months ago so who knows what's nxt !!

2015 doesn't, nobody knows what the 2016 SA does or doesn't have but who cares. It was a choice between which KTM, not should I get a GSA or a 1290. Feeling a bit defensive Nutty are we?

It does have all the toys in the ktm range which is what the this thread is about. Obviously not the right toys for you so be happy you made the right choice for you. You can ride around your underpowered panzer feeling happy.

I test rode the 1190 Adv a few times and ended up buying the R untested (other than a quick blast on a mate's) Marki.

My reasons; I preferred the looks (vain I know, but there you go..... :D) and I didn't find the 21" wheel an issue on the road. There is a very slight difference in so much as it needs just a smidgen more input to start it to turn in and that's it. It's no big deal though.

Off road (well the easy stuff I do) it feels like a dirt bike. A very big one but a dirt bike none the less; very impressive.

I've not ridden a SA but it would seem the most suited to big distance touring (not as if the other two can't though)

Underpowered?

All joking aside, the 1290 does have a great engine, and I may consider one, one day. But not until they start to equip it to to same levels as the competition.

So what are the must haves you consider to be missing? Just those points you listed in your first post in this thread?

It's horses for courses territory for me, I don't want keyless, not bothered about the satnav or led lights, but the option of a shifter would be nice after having the RT and riding the XR (although never felt I needed one on the 1190A)

One or two of the items I mentioned wouldn't be an issue, but when spending £17/£18k on a bike, if a manufacturer is offering a lesser spec'd bike, it should be priced accordingly.
