My brother bought an SA and now I'm tempted to the orange side...

A few pics of the Darlas. Awesome quality

Do you use the Darlas as daytime running lights or only in conjunction with main beam? I have the KTM fog lights which I only use as daytime lights for added visibility. I thought about getting some better aux lights with a dimmer switch for daytime use but the added wiring seemed too much of a faff, especially as I don't ride much at night.

There is no on/ off switch so you can't turn them off. They can run down to 20% as running lights which is great. I currently run at 50% which is ideal but still not annoying to oncoming drivers. In a tricky filtering situation I will increase it.

The wiring is all pre-done via a loom so it's a plus and play. I got my mate who is a spark to help me but he said it wasn't necessary as there was no real wiring to be done.

If you check the Claearwater site you will see some great install vids. You also get a specific 1290 PDF install manual with the lights so it's a doddle. The time consuming bit is the panel removal. Overall, highly recommended and cheaper than the ktm ones.

Chain drive :1/10, ......................except on my race bike.:bounce1

Shaft drive and a comfortable place for me and the Mrs to hammer out some miles!, BMW get my custom for the moment. The 'cock-pit' is just a nicer place to be IMO.

I have to admit I would like to have a wee bit more in the engine room...But performance is not my main priority when buying a bike like this........I want the overall package.

SIMPLES.

OK, thanks for the info. I will have a look at the website.

Clearwater can also supply an on/off switch with override
if required (then you can have them off on dimmed beam and on on full beam

So I got the bike today. Chuffed.

The tech at the shop though has made a bit of a booboo. I ordered the Mounting for GPS bracket and the Bracket for GPS/PDA Bag.

The problem is, the bloke has fitted the Mounting for GPS bracket to the screen as it should be. But then he has mounted the GPS cradle on the handlebars (with the Bracket for GPS/PDA bag).

Now I've got a Frankenstein's monster. I cannot see a way to fit the 590LM cradle to the Mounting for GPS bracket. And I can't see how to attach the Bracket for GPS/PDA Bag to the Mounting so I can then attach the 590LM cradle.

Am I even making sense?

Does anyone have this setup and can show me the component parts for getting the 590LM cradle up on the screen cross-mount as it should be?! I can't help but think I am missing a piece. Nevermind the actual GPS unit itself which is still down in their workshop...
Thanks in advance!

Hi BD

Simply - give it back to them. The 590 is heavy like the 660 and will vibrate endlessly. The sw motech is the best solution. It mounts in the same location but fits securely. The mounting unit you need is the garmin powered cradle which came with your zumo - it fits on to the mounting bracket.

Get some pics of the bike up dude!

Hi BD

Thanks Trev. Good shout. Perhaps I will frisbee it in their window. Been down there pulling my hair out. I've now removed the handlebar mount and taken the Zumo mount off their bracket, just need to reassemble that to fit the phone bag on and get the handlebars re-secured.

I've tried fitting the 590 cradle to the gps mount up on the screen but it simply doesn't fit so left it whilst I was swearing profusely. Very irritating.

I've now ordered the SW Motech mount but it will take 1-3 days from Germany. Joy.

Last but not least - the tech, when mounting the GPS cradle to the handlebars has run the power from the battery but I don't think he has left enough slack to go round the dash so I'm going to have a dirty big power cable right across the instruments. I'm seething quietly...

It's not like I can drop in either. Bought the bike from Maidstone and I am in South Wales!

Really annoyed. They've left me a bit deflated to be honest.

Mine did my head in too but sw solved everything. Just cable tie the slack for now and pop it into the right hand little compartment. There should be plenty of slack in the cable - you may need to release the panels a little to access the cable routing. If he has run it from the battery then you should be fine - doubt he shortened it as there is no need.

There are some good gps threads on adv rider to read up on on the meantime!

Other than that you can now enjoy the bike. All other farkles installed?

Run the cable under the dash. Three screws and a connector are all that hold it on.

What a day. Should have been out riding. Having said that it's snowing up here :)

So I managed to find a French YouTube video demonstrating how to get the tank off. There was literally no give in the cable.

Having levered up the tank a bit I was able to get about an inch of cable loose. Just enough to run to side of dash and not foul the steering on full lock.

I removed the screen to get the KTM mount off. Put it all back together and no screws left over!

The slightly painful bit was having to go through the video and the destructions for the rad guard and aux lamps so I could get all the custom bits back together.

That said, I'm done. Just need the SW Motech one to arrive this week and my satnav unit from the dealer and get it fitted up.

I got the Touratech headlight guard fitted. Looks mean.

Currently working on the Denali power block in anticipation of the autocom landing so I can get that and the ipod powered.
Edited with pics :)

Just back from a two up weekend in Donegal. I have now passed 5k miles and I am loving this bike. The suspension and engine is still superb and 2 up is a pleasure to ride. The bike has been faultless so far so here's to the next 5k miles!

P.S The engine is intoxicating :bow

Noticed a clunk from the front end on slow speed bumps so dealer had ordered me a new LH fork cartridge so hopefully this will solve the issue. Everything is running like clockwork. Did I mention the engine is a beast?
