My brother bought an SA and now I'm tempted to the orange side...

I ran mine dry at 230 miles on the A1..... Don't trust your gauge , it tell porkies

Where did you order your wings from?

What did your fuel gauge show when you ran it dry? Seen various threads elsewhere about the fuel level sensor getting stuck.

Im guessing the Wings can ships directly from the company? - http://www.wings.si/ver3/index.html

The fuel gauge said half full. I put the trip meter to zero when I brimmed it. Granted I had been thrashing it round the Scottish Borders , but still expected more than 230 miles.
There are a lot of reports on dodgy gauges.

Got some bling on

Interesting thread. A KTM SA thread on a GS site was always going to be interesting :)

Anyway, I have just bought a 1290 SA and am awaiting delivery.

I've been riding since 2007 and have owned: 1) Yamaha FZ6 2) Suzuki GSXR 750 3) Honda Fireblade 1000cc 4) Kawasaki GTR 1400 5) Kawasaki ZZR 1400 6) Triumph Explorer 1200 XC (chopped in the Fireblade and the ZZR for this). I sold the Triumph last October after doing maybe 6k miles in 6 months. I had a little boy and simply wasn't getting the time and had a scare or two with idiot drivers not paying attention. The ZZR was the best bike I had to that point. 15k miles across UK/Ireland/Mainland Europe. The Triumph was a revelation. I ordered it with all the extras and then fully loaded it with everything missing from the Twisted Throttle video. It was a proper beast. Alas, it had to go.

I've been hankering after a bike since. I hate having an empty garage!

I took the GS TE and the 1290 SA for back to back test rides. I just fell in love with the SA. That, and I think I have wanted to try the KTM community for a bit. I have friends who have a GS and they love them. I don't blame them. Great bikes. I do think there is a bit of snobbery that goes on with BMWs though. Not many nod at you on the road for example. It's a bit of an in-crowd. And I've never been a sheep :)

I loved the styling, the power and the riding position. I didn't like the short gear lever nub, guessing it's a throwover from the offroad side of things but not easy to get to grips with. Need to find something to customise it. Also need to buy an additional dongle to keep your chosen settings. Apparently a nod to the litigious US market.

I managed to get a brand new pre-reg October 2015 1290 SA for £13,500. Super deal. I also ordered a few bits including stuff from the Powerparts bible (and got 10% off those bits too). Here's what I got:

1) Remus Hexacone Carbon
2) Heated Ergo seats (2 parts)
3) Radiator Grille
4) Auxiliary lights
5) Alarm
6) Adjustable levers
7) GPS Mount
8) PDA Mount and bag
9) Skid Plate
10) Progressive Damping System

On top of that, I have ordered some other bits and pieces too
1) SW-MOTECH Trax ADVENTURE Black w/ quick release and anti-theft
2) KTM quick release tank bag
3) KTM Tail pack
4) SW-MOTECH Luggage rail
5) Touratech Headlight protector
6) Touratech extended brake pedal
7) Puig extended footpegs (but tempted by the Pivot Pegs 3)
8) Garmin Zumo 590LM
9) Autocom SPA Kit-2
10) Mirror extenders. Had these on Triumph. Loved them.
11) Denali Powerhub 2 Fuse Block (this is a must have for easy installation of switched and "always-on" powered gadgets)

Upcoming mods:
A wrap or plastidip to go matte black.
The dongle
A new number plate to get my mate's initials off mine! :)

So, that's it for now. I noticed the ClearWater Lights mentioned earlier in the thread. Time for some more research too!
Ride safe :)

Welcome Battledad to the forum. Nice to hear you've chosen another SA :thumby:

Re the dongle - that's not required as settings remain as per when bike is switched off apart from if you disenage the ABS.

Agree with you on the gearchange pedal - let us know if you find any options and don't forget to post up pics!

I've just got my Clearwater Darlas fitted so if you go down this road you won't need the KTM auxillaries.

Hey Trev. Thanks mate :)

Good news on the dongle then. Save me a few pennies. It seems I may have spent quite a few already :)

How are the Darlas then, tried them at night? Did you fit them yourself? The KTM Aux have arrived and are going on today. I see the CW lights fit on a different spot (pardon the pun) so will likely use both. I had additional lights fitted on the Triumph previously and they were amazing. That's why when I saw you mention the CW and went for a quick gander I think I knew I wanted them :)

How has your experience been on the SA since your last post then? Doing much riding?

I will let you know how I get on with sorting the gear lever out.
Cheers

If your interested in beefing up your lighting then look up the cyclops LED conversion. I fitted them on mine and for my riding I don't need any aux lights.

By the way the pda bag you ordered is rubbish. I have one that I took off after a couple of days. It is in no way shape or form waterproof so if it's for a phone or something like that forget it. The mount is good though so I stuck a Tigra phone case onto it.

Have you got any pics of your 1290 with the darla's?

Superb, great advice thanks!

Off to research Cyclops now!
